possumtrapper 46
Hello, I need some advice from anyone who runs a bobbery pack for hunting, I'm running lurchers and a terrier to hunt possums through thick gorse and blackberries and was wondering if anyone on here runs working beagles and if so how do they go through very thick cover. I'm after a dog that will bark once the quarry has been found either holed up or treed, but not a dog that will trailbark on a scent which I'm picking a beagle will???? My russell lets out a couple of barks once hes found one, but Its hard to pinpoint him without a constant bark to home in on. Quote Link to post
spindolero 1,111
people over here tend to cross beagle with either a terrier or a spaniel getting hopefully something that will speak but not stay on a line for miles. if you look at the 'bushing dogs' thread there are plenty of examples hope this helps Quote Link to post
R.A.W 1,987
beagles are great for even the tightest of cover you'd be surprised . spin has a good point about a cross but i think your asking a bit much for dog that will speak to treed or something to ground and not open on a line. why not invest in a tracking system for the russell problem solved ? 1 Quote Link to post
