jamie1996 1
Thanks for all the replies guys he has only had 2 runs but these where not at my shout as he was off the lead roaming around and spotted them and like you say it is better to wait and therefore me and the dog will see the benefit in the future and i am not the type of person that will sell a dog after a season i will keep them for life and to the guy running his pup at 3 month old you need a spade over your head. 1 Quote Link to post

thefensarefarbutistillgo 2,609
A lot of top dogs are started young in the field, I think it does them good to get that killing into there head while they are still young, leave them to long and they can turn into dopey b*****ds with lack of desire to kill 1 Quote Link to post
Haggis81 147
Malc1, running a dog at three and half month?!? What did you run it on? I TRY and leave mine until physically mature, some do it quicker than others, I know my pups I have just now at nearly 12 month are matured quick and ready to rumble but its the wrong time of year! They will be ready for Graft come September Edited June 1, 2013 by Haggis81 Quote Link to post

arcticgun 4,548
might be worth taking your socks and shoes off mate and running as fast as you can over a field of any area you see rabbits and hares, maybe try crashing naked through a few hedges etc mind make sure you don't hold back run full pace across said field, see how ya feet feel afterwards ya might find ya answer doing that like Quote Link to post
skycat 6,174
It's hardly going to damage a pup chasing the odd rabbit you see out on a walk: the problems occur when people deliberately put them on rabbit after rabbit which the pup doesn't catch: damaging to both confidence and possibly the body if the pup is over run. We have created dogs to have a prey drive far in excess of what a wild animal has, and some pups will push themselves too far and too much. Getting out in the field should be part of general education, but ferreting is the best method of introduction to work IMO, as well as a bit of bushing with a sensible older dog. 2 Quote Link to post
