KittleRox 2,147
thats very kind mate and although I would like one or two mutations in the aviaries I'm going to concentrate on normals I think, you're more than welcome to take your pick from my birds though ps I'm slightly intrigued, do the silver cocks show any red on them
Outlaw Pete 2,224
OMFG!!! I've just worked back through this thread and realised we're talking about Redpolls?!? Silver Redpolls?! I feel weak ....!
fireman 10,932
All my silvers both hens and cocks have yellow head tops rather than red and one cock is a couple of years old so has gone though it's second moult and does not have a red chest either,i'll colour feed one come the moult and tell you if that makes a difference(well if i remember ). Cinny's isabel, silver and colbolt are all colours the redpolls come in OP,lessers and mealies The chicks i rung in the pics are cinny's as it goes and i'll try for some pics of the ones i have tomorrow for you Kittle, one thing i will say is one silver cock i have is in with a irish hen sat hard and what a cock he is,he feeds her all day and when she gets off the eggs he gets on them and never seen any breeding pair i've ever had do that and show so much devotion to each other, just hope the eggs are full eh . Just found a pic of one of the silvers with the yellow head top and that Kittle is a grand offer mate and thank you Edited June 7, 2013 by fireman
KittleRox 2,147
Be interesting to see if colour feeding makes a difference fireman, I read you can influence the colour ( red or green ) depending what your feeding, worth a wee experiment, I reckon a silver with a red top would be very cool

fireman 10,932
Cracking little bird and as it goes this last couple of weeks i have noticed a red tinge to one of my silver cocks chest,i have been trying to get a pic of it but you know how still they sit for you .I'll keep on trying for you but it's just a tinge like the bird on the video has, wonder where his red cap came from or would it be down to being colour fed?. KittleRox 2,147
Probably colour fed I would think mate, I've been thinking about this, if your birds are fed wildfood which in theory should help colour them red you may not need to use corophyl etc, maybe foods such as red berrys etc, couple this with them being kept in an outside flight, just a thought it is a cracking wee bird though
Outlaw Pete 2,224
What in blazes were they eating in that film? Something there. But, I couldn't make head or tail of it. Worth dropping the guy a line and asking him how he gets the red? He can only say it's his trade secret.
