I felt the same about my bitch after she'd had meningitis. She was never 100% afterwards: had an odd roll to her gait, couldn't turn tight, and her spine was as stiff as a lump of wood, but I went on

I felt the same about my bitch after she'd had meningitis. She was never 100% afterwards: had an odd roll to her gait, couldn't turn tight, and her spine was as stiff as a lump of wood, but I went on to lamp her and she had a great strike, and she had a few runs on hares: she was never in pain and enjoyed her long life hugely. I let her do what she wanted to when we were out mooching, and she caught a fair few rabbits during her life. I figured if I never let her do anything then what was the point of spending a fortune on her at the vet's only to spend her life on the lead.

..... last month cass (12 months old).... hit a fence...at full tilt....while on a late night piss.

paralysed from the neck down....and struggling ro breathe....we agreed to costly surgery in the hope she would come right.

After a long operation....vet was due to put her to sleep due to blood loss.....including a blood transfusion...and on a ventilator.... she came through.

her progress was slow... but small progress we was grateful for....

home-life was hard work...with her not being able to walk...we had to keep her comfy....and give her physio twice a day.... her improvements were plain to see with her strength returning....a

and she let us know!

she soon started being able to stand....although very wobbly....

again we worked on her balance with relentless sessions...at 7am before work....in my lunch hour and after work....both me and my wife.

once she got standing...and her balance came back....she was away....

doing the toilet on her own...a great feat....in the grand scheme if things....and a real relief for me and my wife...

we had a 'standard' she must eventually achieve for her to have a decent quality of life....and this was one of the 'musts'...

today she has the full use of 3 of her legs...

her fourth...is coming on slowly...but will hopefully be good...with time and physio/hydro...

she is fully mobile...can even give it a little sprint

and has now reached the standard we needed her to.... to have a happy life...

the road to here has been a long one for us...relativeley short...in regards to time.... but a long road of...uncertainty....worry and the ultimate question of....'have i done the right thing' ....

we are ever so grateful...to the powers that be.... that our hard work has paid off...

a video of her as she is now....

http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?feature=plcp&v=AtpBUkXkBp8

still work to be done...and the end result is unknown...

but shes happy....full of life and taking every day in her stride.

thanks for all your support
