Land Suitable For Rimfire?

Recommended Posts

I have finally got my 1st permission but for airgun only and doubt I would be allowed there with my rimfire since it's only a couple of acres with lots of roaming livestock which is surrounded on all 4 sides by roads and houses. But what sort of land is ideal for rimfire .22 if I was lucky enough to be offered another permission since don't want to waste time trying to get Police clearance if its gong to be a no chance answer. I guess you need good backstops and Police clearance and owner permission but there must be more to it?

It depends on the land. Some places of 100 acres might not be suitable because they are so flat, but another of 10 acres might be because it is hilly with good backstops.

Most places have already been cleared by the police and they just look it up on their computer. If not, they will send someone round to have a look and then decide what calibre it is suitable for.

One place I go is cleared for up to .22lr, but another that looks similar is cleared for up to .243.

How come they had an issue with the usage? How many had you used?If you get a shooter that only hunts deer on pay as you go stalking id imagine they may only use a hand full of rounds each season.so between renewals they may have only used a box or two.

Doesn't seem right.unless none was bought in a few years or something.i don't use thousands of rounds either in my rf or cf but they are well used its getting stupid.

Out here in the fens its flat as feck. When I got my 22 I got it on 25 acre pig farm, footpath through the middle and houses on 3 sides.

Yeah I agree, it doesn't necessarily matter so long as you shoot downwards ie from standing not prone, so the land itself forms the backstop. Danger is increased though from calibres prone to ricochet but here the field size can also help and shooting towards the centre rather than the sides. The shallower the angle, the greater the risk of ricochet so closer target selection.

What do you do with your rimfire at the moment?

How long have you had FAC, it should be opened on renewal so the safety aspect will be down to you .

It is hardly going to be opened if this is his 1st permission and he doesn't use or have permission for rimfire on it!

Hence my question above......... What do you do with your rimfire at the moment?

At the moment I'm still shooting club rifles at a 20yrd small bore indoor range since Hampshire Police mucked up my FAC application by loosing the references and didn't bothering to tell me so 3 months after applying I only found out by asking why they where taking so long. So looks so it like I'm back to the start of the waiting game. Must admit I would prefer to use a rim fire .22 on my permission since them rabbits seem to know when they are just out of range of air rifle but most of the time they stay close to the edge of the fields which back onto peoples property or a road.
