Like i say its a difficult one, if lets say you have ferreted for a number of seasons with a collie x whippet X greyhound,

and the dogs been a good un, then this is the cross you will recommend,

same with other crosses. that have excelled at the rabbiting game.

Its all about what you fancy in the first place,

one thing a rabbiting dog does need apart from nose and the usual pace etc, is a good set of feet, as these dogs usually work difficult terrain, woods etc. which can be dangerous places for a dog running flat out.

your right about feet joe where i mooch my dogs they need to hold up no problems so far coming up to 3 yrs in june

hard running for a dog around me i find the bigger dogs they get a lot as there heavy were a small dog does not just my opinion

on around my area as said it is what suits your needs some great little dogs out there all different crosses doing there jobs

Thanks people some nice looking dogs two me lad got his hart set on whippet x beddy gunner take one off my dogs two so bit off bonding lol out the way of her in doors

The Whippet X Bedlington are great little Dogs, good pot fillers.

but i would prefer the 3/4 whippet x 1/4 Bedlington.

should still have a decent nose, most will enter cover, and should give your more pace,

I have worked both types, and would recommend them both.

Yes thanks I was thinking 3/4 whippet my dogs both about 27 tts but they very keen bit off a hand full for him think beddy for him dog and him will have anouther year on there backs before they out in field so they brobs make a good team lol have got old lurched mania on VHS lol some on there I think gunner dig them out

Seen some nice JR - Whippet crosses, I'd imagine they would be a handy ferreting companion. When looking for a dedicated ferreting rabbit dog I'd like to get the fastest of the mark in the smallest possible package.

But since you have to work the dog and take care of him for many years to come, buy one you like!

Beddy whip is probably the best dog you could go for, also thinking about the summer months you could go for one of the bigger whippets that a cropping up now, so your lad works it in the winter, in in the summer months you get an excuse to take you lad to as many game fairs as you want so he can race & show it, good criac I thought.

some lurchers are virtually whippets ,.with a small percentage of another ingredient that will make it a lurcher and vice versa ........it does not have to be a whippet to be good around warrens and off the mark as there are some handy small lurchers that are just as good and In my exsperince ,.. better........(which isn't a lot)with a bit of a coat and other aspects I would go for lurcher as there skills can go a little beyond ferreting ..........I would like to think that I have seen a small lurcher that would match any whippet .......(but then I haven't seen a lot of whippets ) , so this is just my opionion......... one thing I will say is that the skinny fookers have lightning response and as good a strike to go with it.....but im yet to see better than a small 22" lurcher.......(like I say im nobody who hasn't seen a lot from whippets,.even tho pleasantly surprised sometimes)......every dog has its purpose one way or another , for what ever you think suits

ffs lol more choice I love whippets my granddad worked and raced whippets and was a awesome poucher I don't meen smashing foxes deer out a Subaru I meen filling the fridge he used to catch geese game birds rabbets hair all with is whippets and is snareing was best i seen told me once he got caught and had a whippet up one side off is coat and a hare at the uther talking about poucher with the farmer and keeper lol

why bother with a lurcher at all......if youve got the ground to suit a wee terrier can be just as useful.......my mates wee russel is excellent in really rough gorse brambles etc she marks well and retrieves

was out ferreting with a mate....a tall barbed wire fence seperated us...with a 100m walk to get round....

 

the rabbits were bolting from his side...with my dog on my side...

 

we just passed the dog...over the fence and under the barbed wire
