kenj 131
I went out on a bunny cull this afternoon with my CZ 452 .17. My third shot sounded a bit flat, but still dropped the rabbit at yards. I checked the ejected case and it was split from the neck to the opening. In all I fired 18 rounds of Remington .17 and four had split with no apparent loss of power. I'd never checked before i'd read Deker's post. Quote Link to post
dadioles 68
It does not matter if they split or not. There are no safety issues and it does not seem to have any effect on the trajectory. You are not going to reload them so just don't worry about it. I have plenty of split cases, look and ye shall find. Quote Link to post

I'm not sure why, but that does seem to be the case, I don't seem to have missed anything in the field with split brass, but on a slightly more scientific footing, I used the HMR at 100 yards at Bisley last Sunday, 11 shots, 3 split cases but it didn't show in POI, so......... swshooter 0
I use an OTIS gun cleaner for my 17 HMR and my 22 Rimfire after every use, works great on the both. Very quick and easy to use even on the HMR. It is a patch that goes on to a pull through with a bit of OTIS solution on it. There is a brush attachment which screws on and pulls through for when you feel it needs a bit more of a thorough clean. Quote Link to post
PLEDGEY 495
I have an LEI MOD fitted to my HMR. It can't be taken apart for cleaning so i give it a good hard tapping, both ends, and you should see the crap that comes out. If I'm shooting with the HMR i always keep the barrel facing to the floor so as to stop any crap falling back down the barrel. Quote Link to post
