A Good Day With Friends At Old Down Pursuits Hft Club

Recommended Posts

Just a quick post to say it was really nice to meet up with Rob (Porkybella) for the first time today and have a shoot with him, Davy and our other friend Phil.

Rob made the journey down to Old Down from Birmingham.

We started off by zeroing our rifles off the zeroing benches.

Davy his .22 SFS S2 tuned HW97KT, Rob his SFS S1 tuned .177 HW97KT and .177 customized BSA r10 MK2, me with my SFS S2 tuned HW97KT and SFS S1 tuned .177 HW98 and Phil with his AA S400 in .177.

After all the rifles had easily knocked over the furthest crow knock down target at around 50 / 55 yards we went out and had a springer comp on the full HFT course with phil coming along and joining us with his PCP.

All the rifles did really well especially to say that the weeds and forest on the course had grown quite thick making for some very testing shots where the shooter really had to stretch to make the correct kill shot on the kill zone, and for this being Robs first time shooting a springer at HFT he did himself proud  .

After this small comp me and Rob said goodbye to Davy and Phil as they needed to shoot off.

Me and Rob then got out our other rifles for a second quick check zero before a small comp between us both.

I tried a 3 shot group with the 98 at a yellow metal marker board which was at a lased 45 meters and was happily pleased as it put 3 pellets ON TOP of each other straight off :toast: . Who needs a pcp when a springer can do this?

We had to shoot as quickly as possible on the comp though to get through the 30 targets again before the club closed, but we managed it by shooting target after target without really any time between targets.

Rob used his customized .177 BSA R10 MK 2 which is lovely with the shortened barrel and swift silencer and i used the SFS tuned HW98.

To say that we were both rushing shots and not really giving the targets / shots the respect they deserved we both did really well scoring 49 points each at the end. I'm sure if we would of took our time we could both of scored another 2 - 3 points more each in all honesty. Not bad for a first run out with the springer.

For me it was really nice to meet you Rob and share a good mornings shoot with you. Your a cracking shot with that r10 and half decent too with your springer  .

It was also really nice for me to give the 98 its first proper run out since Davy dropped the power to 9.4 FPE and re greased it. It really did do itself proud today and is a good confidence booster ready for this years HFT season as Ill be using it in the recoiling category  .

Hope to see you again soon Rob..

They are really nice rifles Mac.

I dont know what they shoot like untuned as ive never tried one, but tuned they are as good as it gets for a springer I reckon.

I think a tuned .22 would be silk to shoot.

Having shot with Si and Davy over that course, it's testing enough to achieve a high score as good as these figures. But if it's overgrown more, it will be a really testing course and a score of 49 is not a little thing to achieve without there being some tricky threading-shot-through-twigs/leaves moments! So my hat's off to you all here. That must have been fantastic sport to watch, let alone shoot!

Best to you lads.

Simon
