Doe's Anyone Take Their Terriers Jogging?

Recommended Posts

Are they able for it? I go for a run most days, its a pain having to go again to walk the dog when I could be killing two birds with the one stone. I'll probably just jog some/walk some, see what he's able for and build him up to it but I'd like to hear from anyone who takes their's.

Any dog should be able to keep up with you jogging, well, they would easily keep up with me

yeah thanks, i was reading that so long as they don't have fcuked up(crufts)airways like pugs and boxers they should be ok.

Yes mate, should be fine. Had terriers running behind the quad, and they seemed ok.

I used to take my strong terriers jogging all of the time when they were in their prime. They loved it and it kept them and me fit as fiddles. They were c**ts though and when we were running through the woods they would f**k off for ages.....I don't think I ever completed a run without stopping and waiting for the pricks to turn up again. There were Munty all through the woods, and everything else too, and they couldn't pass up a run when one was presented. This was taken after we'd got back from one run where Kesh had run a Munty into an old reservoir that was just claggy, stinky mud

I take my springer out on the bike she good for 8 miles but a bit tetchy on the way home if another dog rushes up at her.

Would take the terriers but one likes to hunt on her own every time my back is turned and the other would cause me to fall off !

Just come back from a cross country 5k with the Springer and Patt, they also have a swim while we are out and about on this particular circuit.

It has to be good for them (and me) as it seems to keep their muscles nice and firm and any excess fat to a minimum (not like me) especially in the summer months. As soon as the season is here they are ready to go with out having to worry about conditioning.

I don't usually take them longer than 10 k as I think this is about the limit for the Patt but the springer could probably do an ultra marathon!

i used to run 5 miles most mornings a lot of the time on sand dunes with my mums westy,i think a real dog should manage it easy enough!!

Definitely, most dogs should be able to go for a decent bit of exercise with out to much trouble.

The thing that always surprises me (and I am not judging at all) is that some of the guys keep their dogs whether they are lurchers or terriers in amazing condition ready to do battle at a moments notice, then I look at them and they look like they are ready to drop and couldn't even manage a brisk run up the stairs let alone a jog. lol. if they looked after themselves even a 10th of the way they look after their dogs they would notice a massive difference. Like I said, not judging as everyone has their own priorities in life but for me if I am taking the time to condition my dogs I may as well join in and keep myself in some kind of shape so I can enjoy running about with the kids and keep them active too. Also, you don't feel quite so bad when you shovel a ton of crap down your neck from the local Chinese or pig out at a BBQ. lol
