hello there. was just wondering how does one keep there own ferret breed I have got a jill with 6 kits 2 week old. what would be the next step all advice welcome. thanks

There are several reasons for keeping a line...., not only will you always have enough ferrets for your own needs but it also helps to ensure that what ever amount you have are of a good working quality....,now you have a starting point with your kits all you need to do is let them mature then give them several seasons work, during this time there individual characteristics will become obvious which will help you decide if what you have is worth breeding from.....the next step is a few seasons away so for now just enjoy owning / working ferrets.........Atb

Just keep a few jills and get a good Hob from working stock mate

I can see some folk wanting to keep there owns lines but the amount of ferrets it would take ? , i run a dozen and bring in kits as needed but we just need to be honest with ourselves and cull the crap never breed from non workers and certainly never pass them on
