Hi Si,

I didn’t want to hijack the thread you started regarding your rifle exchange with Mawders; but in response to your question to me on that thread “How you getting on with yours buddy? You still happy with the results your getting?” I thought it fitting to reply separately.

Just over twelve months ago I bought my first air rifle for many years, it was a Webley Exocet. I couldn’t get on with the weight and recoil so I took it back to the shop and exchanged it for a PCP. How simple and easy to shoot accurately I thought at the time, I will never have need for, nor shoot a spring rifle again.

Several PCP’s on (six to be exact) and I was still searching for a rifle to keep. Thanks to this forum and your personal help I now have that “keeper” my SFS HW97kt. There is still a place for my PCP’s with vermin control, but for the sheer enjoyment and satisfaction I get from shooting the HW97 and also the TX200HC for that matter; spring rifles rule.

After a short learning curve trying to master the technique required, I now compose my shots to achieve the goal; it has made me a better shot all round.

Thanks again Si,

Regards, Steve.

hi, Steve, sorry to jump in.how would you compare the tx200hc to the 97kt? I thought about the tx before getting the 97kt.as it is supposed to be like a tuned rifle out of the box.

Hi Bernie,

Both rifles handle well, perform well and are very accurate, but they are different calibres.

The TX is .22 and performed very well from new, but it is very pellet fussy, a fettle and re-grease made it easier to cock with a smoother firing cycle, but after bedding in, it increased in power far too much because I went overboard with the grease. After a second strip down and lighter greasing the power is just right for me at an average 562fps (11.22flb) and is nice and smooth and accurate; when I fit the aftermarket moderator it is very quiet too.

The 97kt is .177 and was a little harsh from new but still very accurate. It was always my aim to have it stage 2 tuned by Sandwell Field Sports and was taken to them a few days after purchase. When it returned I was astounded by the accuracy, but it was still harder to cock and a little less refined to handle than the TX. The power crept up to 815fps (11.65flb) but thankfully seems to have stabilised now.

In fairness to both rifles, I have only put a couple of tins of pellets through each of them and it will be a while before they are both bedded in fully. I “blooded” the TX when the opportunity presented itself during a target practice session, but not took either out into the field yet. I do favour the 97kt though; the thumb hole stock and overall balance suit me best.

Regards, Steve

Great to read this Steve.

There's just no need to spend ludicrous amounts of money to get out and shooting with superbly accurate rifles. Why anybody wants to bog themselves down with diving gear, limited shot count and temperamental regulators and bits is beyond me. All my spring rifles together cost about as much or a little more than a single Daystate Air wolf, a quality scope and all the gear that goes to keeping it shooting. For that money you could buy a beautiful spring rifle like a Prosport. TX200 series or an HW95 or HW80. Or HW77 or 97 and fit a superb scope and you'll have a rifle that could take on anything down at the target. And still have change!

TX200HC in .177 is an absolutely blistering piece of shooting kit too!

thanks for the feed back Steve. It's thirteen days since I picked up my stage tuned ,22 97kt,it takes a bit of getting use to but I am slowly doing so have not put a full tin through it yet.I don't have any experience of shooting any air rifles other than the one I have just bought this is why I asked for your comparison of the two but if I go for a tx it will be .177. I can't imagine a springer being any better than the 97kt if there is I want one.thanks for your reply Steve.
