Guest Ditch_Shitter
Just to add, mate; I've read the for and against arguments till I'm blue in the face. Result is that I operate by one simple rule; I don't have my Dogs mutilated unless they need it for medical reasons ~ and I've never yet had a Dog that did need mutilating for that reason either. However, I have a bitch here who had had two litters in her two years of life when an excellent Rescue took her in. This place didn't just hack away at everything that came through the gate. They took each case on its merits. My one, being a potential breeding machine for desirable litters, they decided would be at risk of further usage if they got the new keeper wrong. So they speyed her. I was informed how she'd been abused by her previous keeper and driven mad as a box of frogs. She still is. So I can't say it alters a bitches character one iota. This coming from the lofty perspective of only ever experiancing this one bitch, you understand? But that's my experiance. Crazy as a loon before and after the operation. (As I write this, she's got her head stuck in a hole in my quilt cover and is snarling and snuffling in self imposed darkness! ) But, over all, I'd call her one happy bitch. As a sort of 'Control' to that opinion; I also have my JR bitch here. She's throwing her second season as I write. It's a pain in the arse. If I don't watch her, she'll be off to liase with a local mutt and I'll have to cull the entire result. Thus I have to keep her in and let her out only on an extending lead. But would I have her speyed? Hell no! For a month or so a year, she has me living on my nerves. For the rest of the time she's a charm. Why f*ck about with her? I simply take on my own responsibilities toward her. No short or conveniance cuts. My two Dogs each have everything they were provided with by nature. Interestingly, the Small Dogs seasons leave one of them stone cold. The other simply becomes more playfull with her. Niether of them gets stressed out or tries to rape her. Why then should I follow 95% of vet's advices and have their nuts ripped out? Anyway, that's my input, based on my experiances. Make of it what ye will and make ye own desicions based on ye own experiances and stand point. But just remember one thing; If having their reproductive organs in tact for life means a Dog or bitch is going to die young of some hideous illness which hacking bits off could prevent? How the f*ck come canines have survived all those millenia Without mutilation? All this 'Spey / Castrate as a matter of course' shit is only as old as Dry, 'Complete Diets'. BlueCoyote 0
i agree with Ditch.... i dont buy into the spaying to prevent cancer crap. i also dont buy into the over population crap either. how long has spaying and neutering been around? and how many average people could even afford it? why werent we complaining about too many dogs and cats during the 16th century? you mean that even with people getting dogs castrated and spayed we have a BIGGER problem than we used to? the numbers are NOT adding up. neither of my dogs are spayed or neutered. right now Kaydee, my bulldog bitch, is the middle of her heat, and Ben, the male is finally adjusting to the idea that he cant have any. she stays with me all day, and he stays outside behind the fence. he's a good dog, but i wont be breeding the two ever. if anything, as mentioned with medical problems, Ben is a bit unstable and very skittish, just a bundle of nerves. but he was chained his whole life or kept in a kennel so he hasnt got much in the way of bravery. outside of his kennel the world is scary.. for that alone i may have him altered unless he comes out of his shell. we've only had him for a year so there is still time for him i do believe if an owner is too lazy to keep their dogs secure then they SHOULD get them altered... Kaydee is every essence of the word BITCH when she is in heat. she can get a real attitude with other dogs if they dont show the proper respect.. so its my job to make sure she doesnt cause a fight, or finish any. getting her fixed would end all my problems and make life easier, sure.... but like Ditch said... no short cuts. i got bulldogs because i like their attitudes. why would i alter it? i would get a labrador instead...
