Blakloks 5
I've got a small pond on a farm I can feed and shoot. It has ample feeding depth all around it at the edges but where the small island it's knee deep is it worth lowering the depth? A guy who's got a pond in the same area as us did it cos his wasn't working and up until the wet winter it was working great. Quote Link to post

I would leave it mate as well I agree with alimac, you can feed ducks onto most ponds so long as they can reach the feed, they will find it, Quote Link to post

That's cause when the wet weather hit there would be a splash in every other field and the ducks have to much to choose from. Quote Link to post
The one 8,482
Theres a wee splash in the corner of a field it only goes up to the dogs belly and theres always a few duck on it . It doesn't need to be deep just make them feel safe on it Quote Link to post

sikastag_1 689
As lab said mate floods everywhere mean they can go anywhere, ain't all about depth either surface water is important Quote Link to post
fat man 4,741
I find the more natural feed is growing on a pond the better it is for wild duck, depth is not an issue as duck will land on any water and stay as long as there is ample feeding for them. The only bonus point of view from a deep pool with island in the centre is it makes it a lot harder for a fox to get at them as the element of surprise is gone when he has to swim to get to them.Having your pool situated in a good flight line between maybe a couple of biggish lakes also helps, and then keep it to yourself and not have every man and his gun shooting it.Many years ago I found a great little pool that I knew nobody was shooting and on the same Saturday eve I shot 5 mallard and 2 teal. That sat night I just happened to mention it to a fellow shooter and on the sun eve when I went back for a 2nd go at it there were already 4 guns around it including the chap I had told about it on the sat night, you learn as you go.
