Personally and this is only mine, I would opt for a bitch 3/4 greyhound 1/4 collie. will tackle most things and will be a good dog for a newbie to take on. !/2 collie not a starters dog.

what is the ground like that you will be hunting over???

i agree a good first dog would be a collie grayhound this is a great all round dog it is fast and one of the easyest to train good strong legs great dog ive had 2 lurchers now all my collie grayhound is a blessing and when you get into it if you have a bitch breed it and put a saluki cross through that the you could........wow im getting carried away lol

I never seen a dog being mated, how come you do it like that?(arse to arse kind of thing lol) Genuine question as I honestly dont know :icon_redface:

I assumed you just put em in a room and let them get on with it :icon_redface:

Cheers, H&J :thumbs:

:laugh::laugh::laugh: They're bummers mate :laugh:

They'd tied together after the mating and that's the easiest and most comfortable way for them to stand while they wait until they can come apart

Im looking for as much advice as possible from you guys the experts regarding what dog/cross of lurchur i would be best suited to as my first dog. Lokking to buy a pup and train it myself (novice) eventually doing the majority of its work in the lamp for rabbits and charlie.

As you may be able to tell i am a complete novice (owner/trainer) ive run dogs with other lads for a while now and i want to take the leap and bring on my own dog. Looking for as much advice on breed and things to look out for when buying.

I hope you gents can help

cheers

personally i think a excellent first dog would be a bull greyhound saluki greyhiound if from good stuff will give you years of fun and big bags
