jimster68 123
Just thought i would put up some pictures of my back garden plot, im hoping to add pictures over the coming months of the progress and highs and lows. so far apart from a slow start because of the cold weather things have really started to pick up. so here is my gardens progress so far. The green house is bursting and full of bedding plants ready to go into the garden. most of the seeds were budget seeds from lidl In this photo im having a go at growing spuds in raised beds with the spuds only covered in leaves, im trying this as every year i throw a few old spuds on the compost heap and they always seem to grow, so there is no harm in trying im not sure what the results will be? sprouts and broccoli are doing well and haven't been attacked by anything yet, lol. broad beans are coming on a treat and have really come on it the last few weeks. Onions and shallots are doing well as at the beginning of april they were under 4" of snow, i have lost a couple but no real harm done. i have also put a few rows of Albert bartlets spuds in rows and heaped them up, i want to see the results compared to the ones in the raised beds. i have also grown some spring onions and lettuce in pots my flower bed is coming on really well and i am expecting it to burst into colour in the next few weeks, i cant wait as the garden seems so dull without it. a couple of years ago i put a small wildlife pond in and it attracts allsorts of wildlife to the garden , as soon as it was fitted it attracted a collony of newts , and they have returned 3 years running a couple of different views of my plot from around the garden im hoping to update progress as the season goes on. thanks for looking......jim Edited July 23, 2013 by jimster68

jimster68 123
its been a few weeks since i last updated on my progress, the weather has turned warm and sunny over the last couple of weeks and the garden has really taken off. i am posting a few recent pics of its progress so here goes..... the green house has been emptied of bedding plants, i planted my boarder up and gave loads to family and friends, the leftover plants were donated to lurcherlink to be sold at their fundraising day at the halifax show in just over 4 hours after minusing my expences the rescue recieved 90 pounds. the bedding plants that were in the greenhouse have now been replaced by tomatoe plants some chillies peppers and a cucumber plant. the spuds that i am having a go at growing under leaves in a raised box are coming on well the sprouts and broccoli have gone wild and really shot up with the good weather. peas and beans are also doing welland have really started to get some height. onions and shallots are starting to grow tall, im a little disappointed at the moment as they dont seem to be filling out, but its early days. this year my parsnips and beetroot seem to be doing ok, last year they were a total failure and produced nothing. my potatoes that are in rows have come through well and i am fairly pleased with their progress i am waiting to see how they do compaired to the ones in raised beds under leaves. last but not least my flower bed has started to burst into life, i tried to grow a good variation of flowers to help and attract birds and other insects to the garden. this year there has been a real shortage of bees, and i am hoping to attract as many as i can to the garden, this seems to be working just a little. heres just a couple of different views of my plot from around the garden going slightly off topic and just to prove its not only my garden that is fertile my best jill ferret dropped a litter of kits. hope you enjoyed looking......jim

Don't worry too much about the onions quite yet, mine weren't that good until this week and suddenly boom they were away. The whole lot is looking good there, your papsnip are possibly a little ahead of ours. Regards Jamie
