air gun ant 1,666
I wouldn't bother moving or hiding your rifle mate, it would just make you look guilty 1 Quote Link to post
neems 2,406
the police will respond to pretty much all 101 calls round here, they can't be seen to do nothing anymore. if it was in any way urgent they would of been a lot quicker, invite them in and be friendly. you're in the right mate so be completely open about everything would be my advice. events co-ordinator 353
Put your air rifle into your local RFD and get it chronod when the police come they may take it to be tested if its in the rfd they can't. when the gun is chronod and is legal they don't have grounds to check it. reaper1064 285
Just had some work done so I know the power is within legal limits even with heavy pellets. Quote Link to post
Mister Gain 1,764
If plod thought it was serious they would have been on you straight away. The neighbour obviously informed them it was an air rifle cos if he said he didn't know what rifle it was they would have called out the firearms unit... like they did 2 doors away from me a few years back. Cordoned the road off, bullet proof vests, the works. The lad was plinking cans in his back garden with an air pistol and one of the busybodies phoned 999. Don't you just love nosey interfering neighbours. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Sounds to me that this is a complaint based on the sound of your rifle than the actual danger it poses. I don't think you need worry as the other lads have said. But just be calm when they call, show them where you do your garden practice and let common sense take shape. The Police are required to investigate every complaint they receive so, they are just going through proceedure. I don't think your neighbour has actually turned up the volume on his complaint or the response from the police would be far more serious. They will have asked him if there was a very real risk of death or injury to his guests, was there any vandalism or unlawful shooting of a bird/animal on/to his property with your air rifle? Clearly not. I think he's more worried that the sound of you shooting in your garden is going to have a negative effect on his business. The police will probably ask you to be considerate, as must he, and you all get along with a bit of compromise. Best of luck but I doubt you'll have your gun/s siezed! Simon 3 Quote Link to post
Blackbriar 8,569
It's all rubbish. I had a neighbour call the cops twice about shooting in my garden with my air rifle and nothing has come of it, except the second time the cops went to the neighbour to tell them to keep their nose out of my LEGAL business. Unless this neighbour of yours dissected the pigeon, extracted the pellet and it has your thumbprint on it, what evidence of anything is there? Don't give it a second thought mate. Good advice Walshie!! Remember Reaper that they have to prove your guilt, you don't have to prove or disprove anything and a dead woodie doesn't prove sh1t !! Good luck mate Quote Link to post
reaper1064 285
Result and applause for the dibbles common sense. Two came round about half an hour ago to investigate a concern over me shooting my air rifle. The ass hole who reported it had scaled down the complaint to just not wanting dead birds on his property. To which I replied " I hope I am not going to get a bang on the door every time some other numpty drops a woodie and it lands in his garden. No they are happy that I am a sensible shooter and to continue to shoot as I have been doing. Just would like to thank you lads for your advice and support, I was crapping myself a bit in case a knee jerk reaction was used by the police, but this wasn't the case. Even they said that his attitude left a lot to be desired, and that was with the police who'd gone round to help him. 9 Quote Link to post
