Carp Bait

Recommended Posts

I always used to roll my own bait, me and my mate would split the cost and the work between us. Saved us some serious money over several seasons. I always had a lot of good fish on either maple8 or the Green lipped muscle (man it stank).

Years ago I was a member of a certain fishery in the Dartford area, that place opened my eyes in more ways than just the way bait was applied I can tell you.

I sat in disbelief as several members arrived, set-up, got the rods out and then proceeded in clubbing together to roll kilos and kilos of bait between them. They had all the paraphernalia with them too and finished off by boiling it on their stoves. Once cooled they were pumping it into their swim and then proceeded in starting the procedure all over again. Like I said, never seen anything like it before or since.

Everything I make or buy has got green lipped mussel in it, I love it. Ever had a whiff of nutrabaits "sea monster" additive? Makes your eyes water, along with n-butyric acid and balachan :bad:

I used a fair bit of the Solar squid and octopus back in the day, even knocked up a batch in my mothers kitchen when I was a lad. The place wreaked for days and the drying washing had to be re-washed, the old girl wouldn't speak to me for ages. That was always the killer smell for me, still took a lot of fish on that in the early 90's. lol

ever tried annaseed flavour wilf, it worked ok for me

Over nearly 30 years mate I have tried most stuff, the big problem with aniseed is that if you have a head of bream they love the stuff.......again, after all these years I have come to the conclusion that " flavour" dose not really matter......I think more about bait as you would ground bait......a collection of ingredients that fish find attractive all rolled up in one little bundle.

My main ideas on bait run along the lines of:

If they come across it will they eat it?

If they start eating it will they keep eating it?

Is the collection of ingredient the type that will make them pig out if they start eating it?

As long as I can tick those boxes the " flavour marker " matters little to me........I tend to rinse everything in some type of multi mino type glug anyway as IMHO these are one of the best liquid attractors around for all species

That what me and my cousin do split the cost, bait one area spread out two rods each over the area on my main carp lake, on the other we just fish singles and solid bags all year round and get great results. I use green lipped muscle groundbait in the bags with different sized halibut pellets and liquid mollases

I had a look round Jacko's a few years back, not even sure it was jacko's then.

As to the previous lake, from what I have heard (been out the game some years now) sounds about right . The place has gone to the dogs.

Yep damn shame, I was just thinking about getting a ticket as I obviously wanted to be able to say I had fished it then they put those bloody French carp in there and I have to say, wild horses wouldn't have got me to fish it after that.......gutter !!

Stalking the margins bread, dog biscuit etc even fly last few years, each to there own I suppose but camping out to me should be round a camp fire getting pissed in good company lol don't get me wrong Ive done my fair share of night fishing and 3-4 day sessions but you can't beat watching them take the bait (or turn away at the last minute coz somethings not quite right!) but that's what does it for me now ;) £50-£60 bait!!!!!! WTF

Agree mate, done loads of fishing on top......had them in condition right upto force 4 with big white tops rolling down the lake.....quality

It's surprising how many lads don't have a clue where to start when it comes to fishing on top and will sit behind static rods when nothing is happening but fish are obviously on top

Always found the best condition to be big old warm low pressure systems, those really close humid days when it's grey and rainy

You still have the Larkfield lakes or what ever they call them these days just down the M20. They have always been hard lakes with some good fish in them. If I came back to it I would probably get back on one or two of them.
