WILF 46,570
Just got myself 10kg of boiled bait sorted for £50 delivered, it's a mixture of all the over rolls from a bait company so mainline, nutrabaits etc in all different sizes, shapes and smells.........should be cock on as I bet not many folk are using boiled bait like that on most waters. £5 a kilo lets you use it correctly too, you can't use boiled bait correctly at £10 a kilo it's too expensive I used to use mainline because I got it at field testers rates of £6 but to be honest I don't give a monkeys what I use as long as I can apply it correctly and not have to take out a mortgage to do it!! 2 Quote Link to post

WILF 46,570
i roll my own saves me a fortune How long would it take you to knock up 10 kilos matey?......personally I don't have the time or the inclination but fair play to you Quote Link to post
youcanthide...BANG 1,051
takes about 30mins per kg without including drying them out and bagging them up. I don't use a lot of bait though in a session as I only ever do day sessions or overnights so ive never needed to roll 10 kg. im only allowed to do them in the garden mind as it stinks the house out for days. especially when I roll my favourite flavour, halibut Quote Link to post

You dont need to pile boilies in to use them correctly, price has nothing to do with how you use them, its location and application. If you pay £10 a kilo then imho you have money to waste, there are so many more good foodsource boilies out there than cell, i roll my owm using ABS base mixes which works out at much less than £5 a kilo. Sometimes you don't but sometimes you do, if there is a large head of decent size carp then they can go through a couple of kilos of bait in the blink of an eye, you then add in the tench and bream population of a lake and let me tell, if you have a large shoal of big bream move on you they will go through 6 or 8 lb of bait in a few hours no problem at all I see lads buy a bag of whatever bait, they bang out a couple of rods, maybe 3 and use about a quarter of a bag of bait.......they chuck the whole lot out into the vastness of a few acres of water and basically hope something comes along.......that's not USING bait, that just chancing. I never think about bait in terms of numbers, I just think about the weight. In the margin on a spot that gets visited regularly then I will use just a few baits, but out in the main body of water once I have found the route fish are travelling or an area they are visiting then I will ring the dinner bell......I will fish for a bite if there are a lot of fish packed into one small area but mostly at this time of year they are on the move IMHO 1 Quote Link to post

Mind you theres no denying the success of Mainlines Cell, its been catching them for a few seasons now!. I remember Del Ritchie rocking up at our syndicate water years back when he left shimano and got the deal with Svenson sports, they were going to release their own bait range the following season so they gave him a couple of hundred kilos of bait which he then distributed to all the lads on the syndicate, in it went and lo and behold, plenty of photos of big carp for the adverts Lads were still catching some big scores on other baits, it wasn't that the fish particularly preffered the Svenson stuff it's just that its what was being used so that what they got caught on Quote Link to post
Flipper_Al 1,012
Chuck enough of any of the modern baits in to make it the main food source, and the results will come As most of my fishing now a days is pva bag work, i get through very little bait a year 1 Quote Link to post
billybaltic 308
You can't beat making and catching on baits you have made yourself, i make my own base mixes up and do ok on them, i have no reason to buy the silly priced named boilies, i have had more success on my own, than any other bait, i don't go mad on flavour's, as my ingredients should attract the fish, its not hard to knock a few kg's up. I think once you start it, there is no going back, i do still buy odd baits ie. pellets, seeds, nuts, but very rare do i buy boilies and if i have to pile the bait in to keep a swim going, i don't have to worry what it cost's, some lad's must go through £50-£60 of bait a weekend, not for me, more important thing's in life, give it ago, it's not that hard. 1 Quote Link to post
Flipper_Al 1,012
I hear what your saying about the cost, i used to make all my own baits in the 80's, done ok on it, just dont have the time anymore, and i was the only one putting that bait in,using a good mass produced bait means other are pre-baiting for you I now buy in bulk, 50kg at a time so get it at around £5.50 a kilo, and that lasts me a year... sod paying £50 for bait for a weekend lol Edited May 21, 2013 by Flipper_Al 1 Quote Link to post
