Use both thumbs and open up the trap then engage the safety catch .

Does this lad need some more in depth advise as surely the basic setting of a trap is in us all .

By law they have to be covered, placed in a tunnel or hole, and inspected twice a day.The siting of fenns is best learnt through trial and error as it would take pages to cover every set for all vermin, suffice to say that vermin use natural corridors such as dry stone walls and ditches as well as the runs of their prey .

I've been asked to have a go at some rabbits on my permission using traps, the majority of runs lead from a load of bushes and there is a couple of little ponies in the same field......would It be best to just walk away from trapping them or is there a kind of tunnel I can make so i dont end up with the ponies lips or hoofs setting them off..

I cant seem to find it now, but I've seen a few home made tunnel designs posted on here, just wondered what a good size of entry tunnel to make

In that case, I would snare them where they come out of the brush.

don,t set snares where there is livestock , set your traps well down the holes and it will not be a problem , if it makes you feel better , place a stone or the like over the hole ,once you set your traps , only trouble is you will only get rabbits trying to come out and this time of year , around 50 % of your catch will be entering.
