Millet 4,497
It is not illegal to sell or shoot feral pigeon's they are a vermin species and can be shot/trapped and killed all year around in the right situation's..the only reason feral pigeon proofing is used because gun's are not allowed to be used in town centre's and built up area's.. Millet 4,497
Type it in on google "Is it illegal to sell wild birds"loads of people have been arrested Feral pigeon are not a protected species like song bird's etc..the same as wood pigeon's/crow's/magpies and so on the lot of them can be shot and trapped all year long..as long as you are within the law gun wise you are doing nothing wrong.. Millet 4,497
We are on about feral pigeon's in this topic are we not..not fooking wild protected bird's.. .. Edited to add you can sell Wood pigeon/feral pigeon/magpie/carrion crow/ rook/ and jackdaw to who the fook you like all year around if the need arises and they are all wild bird's... ...from what you are saying make's me think you are around 12yr old or you simply don't have a clue what you are on about.. Edited May 27, 2013 by Millet Quote Link to post
Matt 160
Technically, all birds are protected in the UK. The 'open general licence' allows for some species to be killed in certain situations. The W&C act also dictates which species can be sold. There was a prosecution quite recently where someone was selling Rooks to be eaten and was prosecuted for being in contravention of the W&C act. Woodpigeons, unlike feral pigeons can be sold into the food chain, as can some other game birds. Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497
Technically the pest species are also allowed to be culled all year around with no close season.. .. Edited to add yet again feral's can be sold privately to Falconer's aswell as ferret and dog owner's.. Edited May 27, 2013 by Millet Quote Link to post
Matt 160
Technically the pest species are also allowed to be culled all year around with no close season.. I don't think anyone has suggested otherwise Millet. The point Tom was making was that it's not technically legal to sell Ferals, nor is it legal to sell Rooks or Geese. There is no such thing as a 'pest list' these days; there is an open general licence to kill certain species in certain circumstances. For example, it would be legal to kill ferals where their droppings pose a health risk, but it would not be legal to do so to stop them crapping on your car. Non-lethal methods have to be considered first, but not actually tried out. It's also a myth that proofing is carried out where shooting is not possible. Proofing was developed by the market leader in pest control as a way of pushing pest birds around and generating business. They're argument at the time was that shooting created a vacuum that other birds would breed to fill. It was actually just a clever way of selling a proofing service to as many people as possible.
