Tiercel 6,986
I love the photos of your boy out with you. He is a proper boy! As a bye you might like to wax the ends of the forks you just cut, it will stop them splitting as they dry. TC

Astral 253
Great to see another catapult whittler! I have a piece of Birch I've had hanging since last summer that I'm about to begin shaping, I only use a knife and sand paper too, along with some artistic flare lol. This one will be dads fathers day present once I've got it working nice as he was banging on about getting a new one at the highclere county fair. I'd like to surprise him with a handmade one. Out of interest, do you ever use the wood burner tools used to engrave or make patterns? I'd like to get one but not sure how useful they are as opposed to just engraving with a knife. Want to engrave our old rabbiting dog onto the front for him that should get him teary eyed. =)

B.P.R 2,798
to be honest.... i much prefer my board cut designs.... ive given all my naturals away... i couldnt tell you which wood was best.... i just shoot them....and sometimes make them. regards to the wood burning tool..... that guy i know....who copied me ....used the burner to etch in his band grooves.....a quicker way.... but not as aesthetically pleasing.... i capped the ends of the naturals in wax....but the best one....had already split....but will wait and see....
