After cleaning how many rounds do you need to fire through it to restore accracy ?

NONE!

If you clean it properly you don't need any shots to re zero it, at the most one to clear out any solvents/oils you may have left in the barrel, but if you clean it properly you don't even need that!

Mine gets cleaned if shot, finished with an oiled patch to store . Then de-oiled with an alcohol patch and a couple of dry ones and it shoots to poi from round one.I would not want it any other way myself , it would be a pita to have to bring back on zero every outing, by which time anything to shoot would have moved on around my way.

so having to fire a few rounds to settle the barrel in is bollocks then, it,s ok i was told when i get my 223 i will have to put a few through it first, which i thought would be a waste, can i zero it with the first few rounds then? or should i clean after every shot whilst zeroing, to give a reading off a clean barrel?

Never had to re zero after cleaning ,check zero with every batch of ammo or if the rifle has taken a knock .I bought a new rifle this year ,put a couple of patches through just to check it was clean ,put half a dozen rounds through to see where it was on the target ,let it cool , cleaned ,got it on the money , cool , clean , few more rounds to check i was happy with it ,cleaned it when i got home , shot a fallow doe the next day .In saying this i must add my great shooting mate has cleaned his .22 about twice in its life & it seems to make no differance , i shot it the other month & its spot on ..he laughed when i asked if he had cleaned it ..

i remember reading that it was better to minimize the number of cleaning rod strokes through the barrel to maximize barrel life

I remember reading Elvis was alive and driving a bus on the moon!

A true barrel PROPERLY cleaned will not require any zeroing shots as long as all else stays equal.

My moderators also get stripped and cleaned after an outing and when everything is put back together the rifle still holds zero!

There are various cleaning/breaking in procedures for NEW barrels, these require a LOT of cleaning.

As regards zeroing work, you should only need to fire a few shots anyway, and do not allow the barrel to get hot. If you find the process is taking time then call it a day, especially if your shots are beginning to wonder. Zeroing can be surprisingly tiring, so go home, get some rest, clean the rifle and go back and finish tomorrow :thumbs:
