Tiercel 6,986
I have never made or used a box out of plastic so cannot comment on their suitability as a ferret box. One thing that has always puzzled me though, is the fad for the bow back ferret box. To be perfectly blunt I think they are a load of bollox. If you look at the picture of the box you have a radius at the back of the box and unless your body is the diameter to match the radius, there is only going to be one part of your body touching that box at any time. Exactly the same as a straight backed box. TC Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
I like the look of these but as said above if you need a drain hole because of condensation issues then I'm also out. Quote Link to post
nothernlite 18,089
bowback box is alot better than the straight back sits on your back doesnt move about as mush as the straight back one get with the times old man lol I have never made or used a box out of plastic so cannot comment on their suitability as a ferret box. sycamorebirds 6
The thing with plastic is that it sweats in the heat is this stuff any different ........I would say probably not but the box looks well ventilated.A few more detailed pictures would not go a miss. My reservation with it, is the strap attachment. The plastic clips are all well and good but offer no stability or balance when picking up the box with ferrets in. I do like the look though. Again to the OP. how is the now back attached ? And is the box sealed? Plastic doesnt sweat but you do get condensation caused by the body heat and breathing of the occupants. These boxes are well ventilated and there is a drain hole in the bottom of each compartmant. The backs are stapled using a compressed air stapler and the inside seams are all sealed with a silcon based sealer. i will try to put up some more pics later. If you have to have a drain hole because of condensation then that says it all for me .... I'm out ......... the drain hole is not for the condensation it is for when you clean them out!! paulus 26
We use to use a plastic gallon containers(the type bleach and anti freeze come in ) with a door cut out and ventilation holes added, just tie a loop of string through the handle, chuck it over your shoulder and away we went  Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
Tc, It may be all in the mind, and you could be right, i have the two types the straight and the bow, I always feel the bow is the most comfortable. Quote Link to post
stinkers 102
Nice looking bit of kit there. Some effort gone into making it too by the looks of it. How heavy is it rughly compared to a wooden one. And would the metal edging be rusting or is it ali? Quote Link to post

B.P.R 2,798
suppose if the bow is 'well bowed' then it will fit a lot better. my double off moxy has a good bow and sits well..... the triple i have, only has a small bow and still feels fine.... but does...shift about a bit. ...... these boxes do look good....and 45 quid seems fair for somebodys hard work..... you cant make handmade stuff with a magic wand....it takes time, measuring...cutting etc..... everybody...wants something...for fcukall....not on here but in general.... .... if i needed another box....id consider these.... but ive got 2 solid boxes.... that will last me a WHILE Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,853
I thought the same till 15year ago when I got my first bow back TC ,,,, I have little single bow back,,,, that incidentally I can get 3 small stinkers in... And I tend to carry it high on my back right in the middle,,, rather than round my waist ,,, IDE never go back to a flat back box,,,, there's loads better mate 1 Quote Link to post
albert64 1,882
same as tomo, I use to use a normall flat back box but when it gave up the ghost I made myself a nice double bow back and I carry it high up my back and it fits comfy, doesn't move about at all many years ago I made a box out of some panels left over from fitting a horse box out 6mm thick smooth fibreglass panelling, it was light and very strong but it was no good as even on a winters day a little bit of sunshine and the ferrets began to suffer they sweated like feck in it Quote Link to post

FFS mate it isn't a chest freezer you wash it and turn it upside down to dry .... I am not trying to crab what you have made as it is a very good looking box made with obviouse craftsmanship ... It's just that in my experience any other material other than wood that ferrets are kept in sweat cause condensation whatever you want to call it and that Is detrimental to the well being of the little stinker being carried in it ............
