Chest shots are a no no mate they like hamsters they keep all there food in the there chest also known as the crop! Think of it this way try shooting a rabbit through a beanbag at 50 yards ?

Just be brave and head shot all and every time like its been said you hit it's dead you miss you miss atb mark

On a still day with a good quality rifle in 177 cal. (just my opinion) - head shots.

If a pigeon presents a side on shot 1/2 " below the top of the shoulder will send the pellet straight through heart/lungs.

I have kills like that, if they have been feeding then all you are doing is hitting the crop.

wait untill you drop one with a full crop at sunset, they fall like bricks and the chest bursts out what ever theyve gorged on..makes yu realise.

 

spring time is like 1 woody one plant...2 woodies 2 plants..100 woodies 100 plants........thats every day btw!

I never realise how full a pigeon crop could be till I started shooting pigeons coming into roost with a shotgun, it would easily fill your hand to overflowing with whatever they'd been eating and remember that's all compressed, since then I've always gone for the head/neck when shooting with an air rifle.
