Last night i switched the TV on and flicked through the channels, for reasons unknown i stopped at the committee looking into suspected tax evasion by Google, Gooogle had a representative and a man from there tax advisers (Ernest & Young) after watching this for 10 minutes or so it became quite clear that Google were legally evading UK tax by claiming to be an Irish company and routing money through offshore tax havens. Now not legally wrong this has to be ethically and morally wrong, The government is hitting the poor and disabled at every opportunity and yet seems to think its ok for super rich companies and individuals to avoid paying there fair share. In fact its even worse than that as the same auditors (tax advisers) are the very people who also advise the government on tax. So in theory they can write there own loopholes in tax law and then sell it to the fat cat customers. I don't think for one minute this only applies to tax, its probably rife throughout business and government. It looks to me as if the whole system is rotten to the core and a fresh approach to politics is needed one that puts the normal man in the street on the same footing as the social elite.

Totally understand how people could feel this is immoral but the fact is most people see tax as a " moral" thing ( because that is the propaganda we have been fed for years).........it's totally the wrong way to look at it.

The fact is, morality has got nothing to do with tax........it's not even in the same ball park.

Tax is legalised appropriation of another persons money.......simple as that, nothing more, nothing less........morality doesn't come into it.

If you look at tax like this you will see why this is the case, say you have the best house, car, lawn mower in the street.........your neighbours hold a meeting and vote to " Tax" you some of your belongings in order to help the person whose mower has broken down, or whose car is not as new as yours ec etc..........no different to our current tax system......it's democratic and therefore fair ?

Or is it?

If we want to talk morality, we should look less at what companies like Google or whoever managed to LEGALLY safeguard from having appropriated from them ( for that is what it is) and more about what our various governments are wasting all these vast sums of appropriated cash on with so little thought to the value of the money

They can write off billions at a whim of other people's money on silly computer systems and other hair brain schemes never having to have earned a penny of that money themselves so it doesn't matter.......now that's immoral !!!,

These politicians are saddling our unborn children with thousands of pounds of debt and they have not even been bought into the world!!.......don't talk to me about tax being moral, it's bullshit

It's legalised theft and the proceeds are being wasted with no thought......tax moral? My arse!

Whether you agree or disagree with the level of tax levied isn't the question, The question would be "should a company be allowed to get away with tax evasion" after all its not all companies that are doing this. We would all like to get away with either 1% or no tax but would it be a "moral" thing to do?. We are all a wear that there is no way the average worker on the street, No matter how big his house and car was, would be allowed to get away with it, so why should big companies? After all they don't do the same with the tax levied on there work force only there profits.
There's that word, moral again.......morality when spoken of in terms of tax is nonsense mate.

It's a little like saying it was " moral" for the EU to raid all those people in Cyprus's bank accounts........it's got nothing to do with moral, it's JUST taking people's money to iron out how the politicians see fit

If the rules allowed them to do what they did then I my opinion they would be stupid not to do it.

If morality was ingrained in business and politics then perhaps the country would be a far better place. Greed is immoral, corruption is greed, greed is a selfish action, selfishness has no place in a society. The system is all of these with the exception of moral,

Mate there's nothing wrong with what your saying at all, any decent person would more or less take that view but as far as " the state" is concerned its the myth that we have been sold.

You can't view the state as part of wider society.......it is Great Britian Ltd and the corporate strap line is that " it's all for the greater good"....... This is how they can make you swallow the pills of keep having your money stolen from you, wasting it, propping up vast government institutions like the NHS and badly managing your money generation after generation

If politicians were stock brokers you would never give them a penny as their track record says they don't know what their doing.........you wouldn't employ a builder where every wall he has ever built fell down would you?

It seems ludicrous to me that after pissing away money for so many years government now want us to believe that " if only they could take more money" then everything would be alright???.........it's nonsense but they sugar coat it in all this " moral" nonsense

Never been fooled by that myself and never will be

wilf would the whole country have to vote for it to be democratic, and the neighbours elected by the whole country???

No, its just a very basic example of what tax is:

The neighbours vote to tax you your chattles and decide what those chattles should be

They also vote that if you dont hand over said chattles, they will lock you in Fred Bloggs shed until you do

You object but hand over what they demand because you dont want to be locked up

They take what you hand over and go and destroy it

They come back the next year and demand the same again.........and so the process is repeated

You object a little louder but they all come up with a story about how you should feel ashamed that your not handing over your stuff and they threaten to lock you up

Soon the lie about you being a bad person becomes the accepted truth and they beleive that not only should you be forced to hand over your stuff but that actually, the rest of the street is ENTITLED to it

And so it gos on..........

THAT, matey is what TAX is........as I have said before, moral dont come into it as Paulus illustrates very well by the example of the MPs voting themselves a big pay rise........how can they accuse anyone of not being moral when they are helping themselves to thousands of pounds more of OTHER peoples money that they didnt do a thing to help generate

This one of the things that really gets to me, now I'm not on benefits but have been for a short period. I went to an interview and got a job! the next appointment for my jobseekers 9 days later, I went and proudly told them this fact. They then tried go down the "fraudulent claiming" route....As I had not informed them immediately after walking out of the interview (30 minutes after they closed). Came down on me like a ton of bricks, I was only on jobseekers for 3 and a half months!!! When I asked why I'd be such an idiot to then walk into the office and TELL them the exact date and time I was technically employed, if I was trying to rinse them for what must have equated to about £28 quid. The response I got was, you'll have to wait for a letter as we cannot discuss cases in person!

All crap, went no where of course, but seriously.... I was treated like absolute scum and Im a fecking hard worker.

People all around me seem to be of the opinion people on benefits are all scroungers, and its their fault the economy is the way it is and blah blah.

While the big co-operations get away with billions of pounds of tax avoidance each year, enough to prop up the benefits systems about 5 times over!

Its a massive case of distraction at its best, keep the minds preoccupied with the wrong issues while the big money, thats in bed with the gov's get to do as they please.

Its devide and conquer as simple as that.........the politicians want us to get angry about people who have fallen on hard times and need some help by way of benefit, they want people like you to get angry that they made a song and dance about pennys when a big company managed to REDUCE its tax bill by millions

Its all clever wording and stories released carefully to the press to invoke a certain reaction

For AVOID see SAFEGUARD

For CLAIM see HELP

It diverts peoples attention away from the real issue which is that they are just wasting trillions of pounds of other peoples money and robbing you blind to do it

Bloody hell mate, thats a whole other discussion and one there are not enough hours for in the day  .........but you can see it almost awnsered in this thread.......when you speake of "morality" & "responsability" then you cant put a cap on how far that gos......it may cost £1 to be moral & social but it may cost £billions.......someone is always going to have a good case as to why they are deserving of some money

You just cant run a business like that as there is no logic to it.......and business has to be about logical decisions

The numbers would never, ever stack up and I dont think as a nation, we would be willing to accept some of the hard business decisions that would have to get made.........they have spoon fed us state creature comforts for so long that we are addicted

Is it just me or does anyone else think its strange that when UKIP has all of the main parties backs against the wall, all this stuff about "Tax avoiders" floods the media?

Do we reckon its a little bit of "lets get the mob riled up against them and they wont look too hard at us" :hmm:
