Big bald beautiful 1,231
If I saw vast numbers I would try running them during the day, had 4 or 5 but these were in rough cover and were eating young trees on a nearby golf course. Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
A daytime rabbit.. is a lot harder than a lamped. Never any fuss gets kicked up about that? 7 Quote Link to post
penny wise 136
Thing is with lamping quarry your making it easyer for your dogs ie on hedge rows you can get the quarry to make wrong turns by flashing the lamp. But in the day its the quarry and your dogs nothing else and thats when you know your dogs on form. Dont get me wrong rabbits are easy on the lamp. But half the land us lads with long dogs have. On foot your lamps would'nt reach and the quarry would run out of the beam. Day times the best time nothing better than running in the day and f**k what passer bys say. am running my dog anywhere at any time. Quote Link to post
R.A.W 1,987
I heard an old friend spinning a few yarns one day while out hunting he was telling tales of how his old bitch had caught 6/6 single handed when she was 16 months old. he was talking shite and i did tell afterwards without an audience. It's funny how 3 can turn to 4 and 4 to five after a few beers or when eye witnesses are else were. i've seen 5 caught in half an hour with two dogs after that night i never ran two dogs on a hare again. I don't think some daytime dogs have the running style for a night time hare and vice verser. A dog has to be quick at it's job and box the hare in fast . if the hare gets out of the beam it's away. some hares do run up the beam and some tear up the ground without a dog putting even a one bend in it. old school 543
what cross are you running them with?? my wee pot filler (1st cross beddy/grey) struggles with them both night and day and the majority of catches are in the hedges or else cover!! Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
Never had an out and out hare dog, had the odd dog that could bend one or two and kill the odd one in the lamp. I enjoyed watching greyhounds at coursing meets , that was my fix Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
When something goes wrong.. its normally the coursing man in the newspapers.... not the lampers.... so is the coursing man doing more bad than good for the lurcher community??? Whos coursing dog can keep up on the lamp? Whos lamp dog can keep up in daylight? Different dogs different jobs. Different men different sport 3 Quote Link to post

Im there for one thing and thats to run my dog a real dog. Wow! Is this the real dog that you were wanting to line a few weeks back because you thought it would fix her behavior problems? Makes me laugh the moral high ground spouted by day walkers who get to state how and at what time of day people should catch stuff, then you see proper organised coursing meets cropping up around this way, well towards the end of March into April. Saw a couple of coursers out the other night just before last light, not just kids either. 6 Quote Link to post
shaaark 10,858
people make me piss when they say hare,s are piss easy on the lamp, i can take folk to place were you deffo thing diffrent, and im willing to take you iff any 1 wants to show me,,how easy they are,, Yep, I could go to a fair few places and if you haven't got a very good dog you'd go home empty handed. Plenty of all sorts of quarry can be easier on the lamp in certain areas, but there's plenty of other areas where things aint so easy, and hares can be very fecking hard to catch 3 Quote Link to post
