I just let them round the warrens and watch there reaction, then at 7 months i take them ferreting and they watch the rabbits hit the nets, and hopefully they will pick it up, my Whippet was positive marking at 6 months.

If your dog does mark don't praise or he could start false marking to please you.

i put marking as the main function of a rabbiting dog, as it saves you a lot of time, and therefore puts more bunnies in the bag. although I do like the chase and catch.

Some may have different methods, but this has worked for me.

if bitches only had 1 puppy i would put a pure collie over my bitch, but i think there would be a lot of wastage i would have to deal with.

I don't understand how people can say that size doesn't matter when ferreting. Depends on land and what you're expecting of the dog obviously, but surely a big lurcher is at a big disadvantage if you're ferreting a warren with exits on either side of a hedge or barbed wire fence!

you would think so rob a 28tts deerhound x to a beddy whippet whos going to the rabbit first when it bolts my money would be on the smaller dog
