Dranny GLC 112
How do you teach a dog to mark up or is it just natural ? Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
I just let them round the warrens and watch there reaction, then at 7 months i take them ferreting and they watch the rabbits hit the nets, and hopefully they will pick it up, my Whippet was positive marking at 6 months. If your dog does mark don't praise or he could start false marking to please you. i put marking as the main function of a rabbiting dog, as it saves you a lot of time, and therefore puts more bunnies in the bag. although I do like the chase and catch. Some may have different methods, but this has worked for me. Edited May 17, 2013 by Country Joe 2 Quote Link to post

patterdalejoel 669
if bitches only had 1 puppy i would put a pure collie over my bitch, but i think there would be a lot of wastage i would have to deal with. Quote Link to post

rob190364 2,594
I don't understand how people can say that size doesn't matter when ferreting. Depends on land and what you're expecting of the dog obviously, but surely a big lurcher is at a big disadvantage if you're ferreting a warren with exits on either side of a hedge or barbed wire fence! Country Joe 1,411
best marker I ever had, this might not look like a mark, but she has marked the bury in front of her, and did her usual lying quietly behind, waiting for the bolt. ferreted till she was 9 cant ever remember her telling a lie. The one 8,484
Apart from problems getting its head down i think a big dog 's going to be more at risk chasing a rabbit threw cover Quote Link to post
