i rate the Sigma IPO 70-300 as very good indeed.....but it depends on how wide an angle you require. I had a 28-80 canon years ago and that was pretty darn good....

is that the APO JD as apposed to the IPO? couldnt seem to find the IPO thats all. picked up an old canon lens from the carboots thats a f3.5-4.5 28-70mm, doesnt seem bad so far for the price.

cheers,

whats the AF and macro like on it then JD?? looking to get a new lense like that, wouldnt mind trying a bit of macro aswell without taking 2 lenses out. but its main use is action pics of the dogs etc so has to be fast AF. using the MK2 75-300 USM atm but its a bit slow i found.

cheers,

maty.

They pretty darn good really...but you will never compare them to a true macro. I like the lense for good moving shots. Look forward to really getting it run through its paces this season/...been eyeing up a 170-500.... thats the daddy :clapper:

cheers JD, for the price im not expecting it to be the best macro. the 150-500 looks good but a bit difficult with having to shoot off the pod.

soory for highjacking your thread Derek.Snr. what do you make of the 70-300 IS. im after a new lense like a 70-300. so far its between the 100-300 usm - suposed to be a good lense with fast AF speeds. the 70-300 IS - would you say it was worth the extra money for the IS, whats the AF like?? 75-300 IS - dont know what difference is optics wise between this and the previous mentioned apart from having less zoom range. or the sigma one JD was on about. heard good things about it but if i pay the extra for an IS or the 100-300 will the quality of the pics go up in comparison with how much i pay??

cheers,

use mine for rugby pics ,do not use pod ,just set camera on sports mode and turn on is ,going to first game of the season today will post a pic later, was going to buy the 100-400is L but out of my price range.had good results with my 70 -300,good enough for a couple of rugby programes ,local papers ,and an award last year from lancs for my rugby pics.
