R.A.W 1,987 Posted May 15, 2013 Report Share Posted May 15, 2013 by the sounds of it your after a dual purpose bird i would probally opt for a sussex plenty of eggs and someting to eat at the end of it. don't be fooled into thinking the chicken will be at all tender, roasting wouldn't be the best option maybe a stew would be a better choice. you could even get a few layers and a few birds to eat . for example some warrens /ISA Browns and ross cobs Quote Link to post Share on other sites

fergy 6 Posted May 17, 2013 Report Share Posted May 17, 2013 yes id go with the sussex a good way to get rid of the toughness though is to leave the bird in water over night i generally put a few chopped carrots, onions and sliced cabbage in with it, a pinch of salt and then cook it however you like, if you find that turkey is dry do the same with turkey it works a treat.
