Terryorr 27
Last season my 3 year old springer bitch really came on leaps and bounds in the shoot, doing everything correct so when she came into season this time I decided to take a litter of pups out of her. My mate has a really good working dog so I decided to use him to serve her. The pups were due on monday 13th May (just past) so from friday 10th we keep a close a eye on her. On sunday 12th at 10 30pm my son came in and said that the 1st pup was born but Misty was running around the pen panicing and the pup was yelping. I went out and took the pup off her and settled her down and sat with her to 1 30am but no more pups appeared so I went to bed. I got up at 5 30am and she had just had the 2nd pup but the 1st 1 was lying stiff and cold at the other end of the pen. I just thought oh no, disaster, but on lifting the pup I noticed its mouth moving as if it was taking its last breath so I wrapped it in a towel and rushed him into the house beside the radiater and warmed some milk in the microwave to take the chill out it and slowly spooned it into him for a couple of minutes and to my surprise and relief he started to respond and come round. After maybe 25 minutes he was writhing about and squeaking so I took him out to the mother who had the 3rd pup by this stage and pup him in with the rest. My kids weren,t at school on monday until 10am and by that time she had 5 pups, by 11 30 she had the 6th and last. That 1st pup is doing as well as the rest now and all seem happy and content. 13 hours the bitch was in labour ( 7 hours between 1st and 2nd pup) so I have her on calcium tablets from the vet for 10 days and with a bit of tender care and attention she should be ok. The litter consists of 5 dogs and 1 bitch. I am off work all week so my time will be spent looking after mum and pups so should have a happy ending. Quote Link to post
RubyTex 1,957
Nice one mate glad it went well in the end. I was a bit pissed off with the owners of the bitch i studded my dog out to, i was getting pick of the litter so obviously i wanted every pup to come out happy and healthy. Their bitch went into labour at about tea time and popped out 5 pups, then they decided to go to bed at 11. When they woke up again the next morning three more had been born of which two were dead!!! I offered to come and do the 'night shift' but oh no....and that was the result. Very annoying. Keep us informed on the pups Quote Link to post

Sorry to hear about your situation but some people are just unbelievable. I know you have the pick of the litter but still it will be on your mind ,WHAT IF. I would rather a bitch had a small litter and kept them all as having a large litter and losing some. Quote Link to post
