robbielisa 11
hiya all, just wondering if anyone has any knowledge on genetics?? is the merle gene dominant? i.e will a blue merle sire produce all blue merle pups? Quote Link to post
LaraCroft 863
Yes the merle gene is dominant, but it is a single gene, so no it won't always appear - so no a merle sire will not always produce all merle pups. The sire can be merle/normal gene or merle/merle gene, and obviously the bitch will give her own genes to the pup too. Quote Link to post
robbielisa 11
thank you, genetics always confuse the hell out of me! could never grasp it when I bred finches as a kid either!! Quote Link to post
