bwfc 164
Wicked, youve got to be joking. Within the next 5 years the Otter will have decimated most of the fish stocks, including commercial venues which will take peoples livelyhoods.A cull will have many people up in arms but something has got to be done and soon, which i doubt will be forthcoming any time soon. On a personal note this issue has had me thinking about selling all my gear, which has took me a lifetime to build up!. 6 Quote Link to post
treecreeper 1,136
not a once in a lifetime picture at all, its happening up and down the country. Quote Link to post

Thats a bit of an exagerration its not, we have lost around 3 grands worth of fish in a few weeks to just one otter on just one small water. how long do you think that can go on? you must know what damage an uncontrolled apex preditor can do never mind one that is funded and protected. 6 Quote Link to post
jimb 30
I know in the Thames Valley otters were released Quote Link to post
billybaltic 308
These otters are causing a lot of problems and costing some people a hell of a lot, but so are cormarants and they got left, we have no chance of being able to control these things, if its interfering with peoples lives, like fishery owners or others who work in the fishing industery, they should be given permission to control them, it will get worse. 2 Quote Link to post
treecreeper 1,136
I know in the Thames Valley otters were released I hope you dont have the issue over where you are mate, its sickening, weve spent alot of cash and alot of hard graft to get our lake what it is today and now were in the process of fencing it off to all other wildlife because we are having our stock eaten alive. There is otters in every english county not sure about wales and scotland but in know they are in some iv seen them. cormorants can be shot under licence and iv been told recently that they maybe going on the general licence, otters cant be shot, trapped or moved legally at all atm. From what I've heard you apply for a license to shoot the cormorants and they are very restrictive over how many you can take and you have to have exhausted all other methods...by which time the damage is already done. Being allowed to shoot one or two is a fecking joke when more might turn up the next day and carry on their business. Must be a nightmare Quote Link to post
bwfc 164
Its a big problem up and down the country and is far from exagerration,as i am in touch with many anglers all over the uk through an established website. There have been many organisations illegally introducing them without licence to do so,and it is fast getting out of control. In fact some would say its time to do what is needed regardless of the law, because nobody is listening and acting upon it!. There should be at least a grant that fishery owners can apply for to fence off their property and livelyhoods, but until the goverment aknowledges the problem we are stuffed. As for the Cormarants, well unless there is someone there to keep tally.......... Quote Link to post

Must be a nightmare your correct. but it gives you permission to have a gun and a few dead birds which is all you need Quote Link to post
