Carraghs Gem 1,675
Saved a workmate from being run over by a forklift truck... Asshole speeding around the corner in the forklift and i instinctively grabbed her and shoved her against the wall out of the way... Not something id consider heroic though... What i consider heroic is a neighbour who jumped into the field and shot the bull who was laying on top of his elderly owner for nearly 45mins while armed garda were afraid to go in the field to save him... If the garda had shot the bull when they arrived they stood a good chance of saving the mans life, the garda tried to stop the neighbour entering the field and afterwoulds tryed to prosecute him for interfereing in police business or some such bullshit charge

To be honest mate ,I probably saved a dozen , it wasn't,t anything brave about it though ,you,v got the equipment and the training ,and to be brutally honest my own safety was always my top priority , the passer by who runs into burning buildings with no regard for himself , now that's a hero . Bosun11 537
Every word Stan, by my reconing, a heroic act is defined by putting your life on the line to save another, how you went about it matters not, its the act that counts and though you both should have received a commendation in my exp. those that dish 'em out usually get it all to cock anyway.. Well done mate..!!

rob190364 2,594
Saved my mate when I was 5, school took us swimming and we were dicking about so while the other kids were having lessons we had to go in the little pool and think about our actions, that daft get swam to the bottom and stuck his thumb in the grid and couldn't get it out, all I could see was his arm waving about so legged it over and wrenched it out as hard as possible. It was bloody close, his face was only about 6 or 7 inches below water but his hand was stuck fast, the lifeguard was too busy watching the big pool to even notice. Also saved my mastiff from drowning when the silly big oaf leant into the canal to get a drink and slipping in and sunk, god knows why he didn't float!! Saved my (ex) wife from getting run over when we were walking across Sainsburys car park, she was looking the wrong way just as a boy racer came flying in her direction, grabbed her arm just in time and he missed her by inches.......might save that story for when someone puts up a 'worst mistakes of your life' thread

mushroom 12,959
Tried to save a man's life who had had a heart attack, was working on him for about 20/30mins with the paramedics (I was first there) unfortunately he died en-route to hospital. I received a lovely letter from his wife, it was just one of them. My ex is a paediatric nurse and frankly for me you don't get more heroic than nurses with the crap they have to put up with on a daily basis whilst trying to save lives.
johnny boy68 11,726
2 young lads from our village, one is a member on here. Well one day when they were about 5/6 making me around 10/11, they were swinging on steel railings, the ones with spikes on the top that ran along the river wall, as they were messing round the concrete plinth that the railings were fixed too snapped off with them holding on to the railings. I heard a scream from across the park and ran over and the one lad was on the wall shouting and screaming and pointing into the river. Has I get on the wall I can see that his mate as landed in the river with the railings landing on him, the weight of the railings holding him under the water so I jump down and manage to lift the railings enough for me to drag him out as you can imagine the lad was hysterical but apart from being very wet and distraught he was unhurt. It never really sunk in what I had done until a good few years later when the lad kept buying me drinks one night and saying "you saved my life you did !" I didn't get any awards or anything just a huge bag of sweets that lasted most of the school holidays off the lads Mam.
