hedgerow pete 25
the guy accross the garden from me has had over the last few years lots of differing animals, all pretty poorly housed and looked after. a few days ago whilst being extreamly nosey i realised what the latest animals are that are stuffed in small pokey cages. i have listed several names as i am not a twitcher and i cant tell a crow from a parrot a GYR or a Peregrine falcon the other bird is either a Sparrowhawk an Elonaras falcon so i called the filth at the rspca and of course there not intrested in any way shape or form as there is no tv cameras to play up to. i called the rspcb, thinking of all the people they would step in and meet with the same refusual to help so i tried the local council, a guy called ian gibb is the top dog for the animal welfare, since leaving him a message we have seen someone go to the house but the birds are still caged up and the council guy is not returning calls now whats the main problem, well for starters the peregrine is in a cage two foot cube with no perch and the other bird is in a cage about 3 foot long and two foot square, they are never flown and never exercised and this is the guy over the winter when it started snowing used to keep the one lot of canaries inside the wheely bin to keep the snow off them does anyone know is any of these birds still need a ticket to own them, and whats the minium they can be kept in, and lastly does anyone know of someone else i can call to get the birds away from this pilchard and back to someone who can look after them properly pete Quote Link to post
youcanthide...BANG 1,051
im pretty sure a peregrine and sparrowhawk will need an article 10 licence without them they will be illegal to keep as there native birds dont know who to ring but. try defra food, farming and animals office number on 020 7238 5054 and tell them about the birds he is keeping without mentioning the condition they are kept in and tell them he is keeping them without an article 10 licence. thats about as much as i can help with i know defra issue the licences so if the number doesnt work try this 08459 335577 its defra public enquiries number all the best anyway and keep us updated Quote Link to post
youcanthide...BANG 1,051
the minimum space required to keep any bird is an enclosure big enough for the bird to spread it wings and turn around. shocking i know but thats the law Quote Link to post

bobcullen79 1,495
Tut tut tut. I hate to see poor husbandry but, animals aside, a grass is still a grass. If you were that bothered, you`d have jumped the fence after you finished spying.... Quote Link to post
j j m 6,553
people that keep birds like that want a good kicking, theres enough muppets walking around with bops on there fists who no sod all about the sport,i got a call last week to a harris in sunderland that a 17 year old had lost on his first outing he neither new how to weigh the bird or even if it had brought a pellet up he paid 150 off bird trader, the person who sold it to him wanted a slap as he asked him no questions i said to the lad if i catch it i will give you one hundred for it ,as theres no way your getting it back,to cut a long story short i got the bird down im now mentoring the lad and his bird is in a spare mews moulting, yeh im soft but id rather learn some one then see a bird lost or die,in 25 years ive mentored some good lads and lasses ,but no matter how hard you try some people arnt cut out for it ask your self have you got the time to fly the bird have you the money to feed it can you afford the mews and equipment, and most inportant can you get some one to look after it when you go on holiday and insure the bird for vets bills if no then its not for you be fair to the bird and dont get one if you cant meet these requirements 2 Quote Link to post
hedgerow pete 25
several good pointers here, first up the reason why i have not tried to comunicate with th e person involved is that he is ethnic and refuses to obey uk rules and standards as in his country he does so and so, been there tried that many times before, basically a right arrogent twit at the best of times. managed to get some feed back from the council today , one of the birds is a sparrow hawk and according to them, he does not need a licence to own the bird only of he wants to hunt with it and they have advised him to build a bigger cage for it and thats as far as they are going with it, no follow ups nor any other items to do. it just galls me to see two beautifull birds housed and abused like that, ho well, for me thats as far as i can go with it. Ideation 8,216
Tut tut tut. I hate to see poor husbandry but, animals aside, a grass is still a grass. If you were that bothered, you`d have jumped the fence after you finished spying.... A grass is a grass . . . . . . That's such a play ground mentality. At the end of the day the RSPCA etc are c**ts. But it's cases like this they SHOULD be dealing with rather than the hunting stuff. Not everyone is willing to break the law, by entering someones property and removing animals etc, or resorting to violence (if things get 'tasty'). So in that case are they meant to just stand aside and let it go on. . . . for fear of being 'a grass'. If someone knew their neighbor battered their wife and kids regular, but was too weak or not in a position to intervene themselves . . . . should they just stand by and do nothing? Because hey. . . .wouldn't want to be a grass! I wonder how many folk use that excuse to stand by and do f**k all? 5 Quote Link to post
