Huan72 687
About 8 years ago the wind patterns changed, when you ride a bike regularly you notice these things It seems to be more windy, more often. I read somewhere that the gulf and jet streams may stay south for 50 years. I reckon a lot of its guess work but I do think a change is on the way................start a business making wellies If the salinity in the atlantic changes too much, we could be in for a very cold time, at least a holiday in Europe will be cheaper...........................we'll be able to walk there

baw 4,360
Not sure if I buy into this the summers are getting wetter. Surely if that was the case rivers would be larger etc. look the same as they always have to me. Yes some of rerouted in some places, flooded homes but is more down to building on flood planes and Tarmac and mono block etc. I think we all think back to our childhood and remember the long summers. But you ask a 30,40,50,60,70 year old they'll all say the same, even though the older ones have been saying it for 40 years!!! When your young the days were long, you were out the whole day enjoying it. 2 days of sunshine felt like a week. When you start working for a living, it could be sunny all week but if it rains at the weekends when your off its been a shit summer. I've no doubt some years are wetter than others but that's nature. We had very little snow for a few years then got 2 bad winters in a row. Shit happens.

I'm sure we look back on childhood summers with rose coloured specs, but there is no way summers were as bad as they have been in the last few years. My garden has only recently turned into a garden instead of a swamp which it has been for the last year. Our local water authority has kindly told us that however little rain we might get this year, there won't be a hosepipe ban as they have as much water as they can possibly have. All the reservoirs are full. Childhood memories or not, I can definitely recall my mum going to the standpipe at the end of the road (and queueing for it) to fill a bucket, more than one year. The "droughts" we get now just mean we can't wash the car (shame) or water the garden. As I ride a motorbike to work, and have to dress appropriately, I am aware just how many days I have to don wet weather gear. We used to have 2 weeks holiday in Cornwall or Devon when i was a kid and come back burned to a crisp. Wouldn't be able to do that now, unless we freakily managed to find the only 2 week window of sun in 2013.

04fox8 168
Baw's right about building on flood plains etc. The councils are happy enough for 100's of new buildings getting thrown up where ever there is space....£1000's of extra Council Tax. Then when the homes get flooded there is a hoo-haa about it all. Why do they think there were no houses built there in the 1st place! Type your nearest town / village into Google, Hit Images, and I'm sure you'll find photos of severe weather from long ago....(Well I did anyway)

I can mind one summer when it was blue sky for about 6 weeks, can't remember the year, the big breakfast with gravy roslin and that ginger fanny, think it was early 90's. it was so rare I still remember it. As for your mum using a tap in the street, think that's more to do with shitty water supply's in your area. A couple of bad summers and its all the end is neigh lol. It's only may, give it a chance.....
