walshie 2,804
Not sure if I buy into this the summers are getting wetter. Surely if that was the case rivers would be larger etc. look the same as they always have to me. Yes some of rerouted in some places, flooded homes but is more down to building on flood planes and Tarmac and mono block etc. I think we all think back to our childhood and remember the long summers. But you ask a 30,40,50,60,70 year old they'll all say the same, even though the older ones have been saying it for 40 years!!! When your young the days were long, you were out the whole day enjoying it. 2 days of sunshine felt like a week. When you start working for a living, it could be sunny all week but if it rains at the weekends when your off its been a shit summer. I've no doubt some years are wetter than others but that's nature. We had very little snow for a few years then got 2 bad winters in a row. Shit happens.havent you noticed the rivers flooding lol............and by me the river banks are eroding and especially on the bends..........this time next year we will be under water rodney.......... im sure the met office have the stats to prove there theory of wetter summers......... edit too say have a good day at work today....... Im sure ive herd a few comments, like "wettest since records began" "coldest since records began" and a few others Aye, wettest since 1985, big deal lol. One months the wettest, didn't we just have the driest month recently too? It changes like the weather mate And thanks whippet, I'll try the summer of 1976 now that was a summer, most of the records are over 100 years old Ah 1976. I went fishing every single day of the school holidays. It was getting hot as I got there and still hot when kI was coming home after dark. Those were the days. These whippersnappers can't recall that. even the canals started to dry up i looked like a pakki all that summer blink nowadays and summer is over Yeah and the lakes were low so all round the edge there was that stinking green sludge. No suncream either for us in those days, just peeling great sheets of skin off your back and arms. Now where's my rose coloured specs again?

Lab 10,979
It's easy seen who works indoors on here. If you reckon the summers are not so different then I'm afraid your deluded. We live in the UK, of course it's going to be raining a lot of the time. But summer is ment to be good weather with a little rain, last year was constant rain with breaks of sun. It was also very cold last year, especially through the nights. I can remember in years gone by I was out in the rearing field, tap aff working away, having to bit birds at night because it was too warm to do so during the day, going to check birds at 11 at night with a t shirt on and having to park caught up birds on the trailer under the big tree because it was to hot..... Now I use that tree to shelter them from a rain storm. Don't f***ing kid yourself that the world is not changing for the wetter! Gets on my tits!!!!!

Oh so the world is changing because we had a wet summer last year lol, behave lab. We get runs of good summers, the odd great one and runs of bad ones. Been that way all my life. Can you remember the funny postcards of rain, snow, sun all in the one day? Have you heard the saying, if its raining, give it 5 minutes....... British summer time has always been the but of jokes, do you think this only started a few year ago?

British summer time has always been the but of jokes, do you think this only started a few year ago? It's been shocking now for the last 3 at least!!! It's not just the rain it's the temperature as well, it's much colder. If you don't believe that then you can pay the difference in my gas bottle bills.... LolI've never said we used to be the Sahara and then all off a sudden it's pishing down but all my summer memories stem from working on the rearing field and I can assure you I remember it being a lot drier and warmer. We shall see what this year brings. Last year back in about April we got a weekend of glorious sunshine....so far this year we have had nothing. Anyway I'm away out to start moving the sheds for birds coming next week....it's cloudy, bits of blue sky, sun is hiding and it's about 5 degrees....... Vest it is!!!!!....:-)
baw 4,360
Lol lab, suns out here ok 3 bad summers lol. Your memories might be of growing up in the rearing fields basking in glorious sunshine but its a bit different helping in a job compared from having to make a living off that job. Everything is magnified.

baw 4,360
We should have our own survey on here, pinned topic with voting options. Sunny, rain, overcast, partial sun/rain. Vote your weather every day, see what the outcome is over the country. Don't know how to work the logistics with multi votes, paulus is the brains there

Everything is magnified. You lot must have been lucky up there then. 2007 was the start of our run of shit summers. 2007 was when everywhere was flooded all summer. We haven't had a nice one since. I think that's enough years to be a trend rather than an exception.
