Guest ak7312
This is my first post on the board, but I have been reading here for a year or so. I was hoping to find out if there are any working whippets in the USA and were i would look for a quality dog here, I am in TN for those of you here in the states. My second question is what does the Saluki bring to the mix when using them in a lurcher breeding?, I have a few Grey's and I know that they are fast but lack stamina. Thanks for any help you may have. Adam. Quote Link to post
martin 332
I do know for a fact that there are some of Mike Browns 'Working Whippets' over there, somewhere. These are 'Sooty Sam' lines. Quote Link to post
Guest smash
saluki will bring you a mix of lazyness, cowardness, half heartedness and give you nothing but trouble. i have been runnig for 25 years if you want a good dog to put in the mix you want bedllington or a bull cross or even better get a minshaw (see andy moore) Quote Link to post

staffy-1 0
Smash go away you crank! ............saluki should bring you tonnes of stamina and a very clever dog....but tit can bring a lot of stubborness into your dog but thats how you bring them up aswell isnt it Quote Link to post

Lennard 10
Goodlooking greyhound that is sir. Looks useful...how heavy is it? Saluki can give you great feet, stamina en toughness. Good one is ideal for jack rabbits in open country. You might also get aloofness and selective obedience but it depends on the dogs upbringing and your attitude. But not all salukis are alike. Some are pretty "macho" dogs others are more like cats. Dutch Salmon likes salukis and has written "Gazehounds and Coursing" on running dogs in the US. Pick up a copy if you can. Cheers L. Guest ak7312
Thanks for the replys, Smash if you dont like Salukis why dont you add something intelligent, instead of using my first post as a place to let your mouth run. L the hound is about 25 inches and I am guessing 65 pounds we live on acerage and he has caught a few rabbits. I just got the use of 500 acres full of coyotes foxes and some hogs so perhaps he will get a little more work soon. If the next photo posts up it is one of my young females about 14 months. Again thanks but still looking for working whippits over here. Adam. Quote Link to post

Lennard 10
Thanks adam, 65 pounds is a good size, not too big. That second dog looks like it could deal with coyote without whippet blood Is that pure greyhound? Though they operate mostly in the west, the people of the NOFCA might be able to set you up, or this guy, an ex-brit: http://lythwhippets.net/index.html L. Quote Link to post
