kruby01 114
Well I have seen this first hand, I am from Liverpool and lived there for 21 years and people are shocked if the find out I own guns, I have now moved out into the lovely shropshire countryside and every man and his dog own a gun whether they shoot or just have an old air rifle in the attic they are everywhere and no one cares because its part of country life. My family are all from Liverpool still and hate it. Last time I went to my sisters the subject came up and in her words Im a 'sick murdering sadistic pig!' I then asked what she wanted from mcdonalds and she said a cheeseburger......you can guess my reply which she didnt like. When Im walking from a shoot round here people just ask what I have caught but I still have to agree with a previous topic about it being a dirty little secret. Im single at the moment so when I meet a new girl I go on a few dates etc before the words gun or hunt come into conversation. People dont get it when I say I am an animal lover but I hunt

People dont get it when I say I am an animal lover but I hunt This is exactly the problem I have. I love animals, i never intend to be cruel and I show respect for what goes on my table. I take gray squirrels because I love the native reds, I support the boar cull in the Forest as the numbers are out of control and its damaging other wildlife habitats. I'll happily sit and admire a beautiful deer as soon as I would shoot one in the right circumstances, but not to see it die and then measure its head. because without control they will all be negatively effected,(oh and I fecking love venison!) Trying to argue my love of nature when I also hunt is the hardest thing in the world, people just don't seem to be able to connect the two.

The same with me, i shoot, work lurchers and yet im just as happy sitting taking photographs of wildlife as i am controlling it.
redial 81
Shropshire born and breed but when out with a gun Idon't feel as comfortable as I used to because there is alot of anti gun feeling around. To many people will call the police these day's just because somebody has been seen carrying a gun or heard shooting. Cheer's and beer's, Phil.
Born Hunter 17,763
Thanks for the reply's guys, I'm in the same camp as most of you. Regulating any dangerous thing, is not a bad thing (eg. drivers licence, electrician licence etc. ). What I am curious about is the attitudes of your non shooting mate's and family are? Most of my family and friends come from a city life style and have distaste for guns but my rural friends (where I live now) have different persecutive. Is this the same in the UK? Personally, most people that know me know I shoot/hunt and I don't think I've ever met anybody that had a serious problem with me owning guns. Most are interested by it, especially folk that hardly leave the inner city, their only association with guns is on the wrong side of the law so tend to have huge respect for legal gun owners and sporting shooters. In my experience, the general 'feeling' is pretty relaxed regards guns. But can very often have you think otherwise........... Edited; I'll add, things have changed, when I got my first air rifle I could stand on the bridge by the side of the road leaving the village and shoot rats running down the river bank without any fuss. I would shit my pants every second that went past if I tried that same trick now! Rural and urban lines are more blurred and the residents don't always have the same understanding they used to................
