Thanks for clearing that up phill,i know most german stuff is built to an above standard usually,seems austerity gets every,the prosports a keeper,i know iam lucky with it,yours was nightmare,chalk and cheese on the same product,

i work for an italian car manufacture FIAT,and sometimes the conversion to right hand drive are poor,RHD is a small market to they care less for us,pretty cars though

Good stuff on the tuning kits guys,however my new Airarms prosport 177 has just chronygraphed AA field 8.4 grain 4.51 with an extreme spread of 5.1 fps over ten shots and its an out of the box rifle,i dont want to get into the my rifle's better than yours but i thought weirauchs were suppose to be muts nuts

That's an impressive spread for any rifle, never mind one straight out of the box. I think you've got a keeper there, mate.

 

Simon's 97 will take a good few hundred shots before it's properly settled down though and I've asked him to give it back to me for another check over the chrono just to make sure all's well and safe after it's all properly bedded in.

 

In my experience, any new rifle (including the Prosport) will benefit from a little fettleing once it's bedded in a bit. It's always a bit of a guess working on a brand new gun as there's no evidence of what may not be working with what quite as well as it might. Witness marks on metal can tell a big story on any type of machine.

Andy,i asked the guy at the gun shop when my prosport would require a service and he said basically never or when accuracy deminish's,but i cant believe the factory grease on the piston will stay where its supposed to.its got to get pushed to the ends of the piston travel,i watched geordie marksman fitting a v-mach kit and it didnt look that complicated,i wondered if relubing the piston after so many pellets would be a good idea or am i worrying about nothing,i dont really want to open the action or let anyone else open it for that matter

If you're happy with your rifle , Nick, then I think it's a classic case of if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If the correct lube has been used in the right amount then it should stay where it is.

 

It's always worth stripping and re-lubing once in a while, it won't last forever. Depending on how much use it's getting then once every year or two will keep everything as it should be. It's not just the internal workings that need a little TLC, it's everything that can move. If it moves, it'll wear eventually.

It has always been a real competitive industry between Weihrauch and Air Arms that their rifles were set apart as the top spring rifle rivals on the gunshelves. That was great for us as, we got a fabulous rifle from both makers. I love my HW80 and my TX200HC is fabulous to shoot with. Both of them over the 10-year mark

 

Weihrauch have really let their quality slip down though and this HW97KT wasn't shooting as well as I know from experience it should as a new rifle. Andy found the spring was the let down (again!) with a badly cut and finished unit. The rest wasn't bad though. The few shots I took with in Andy's back garden convince me this is going to be a marvelous rifle now. Everything tight, sharp and shooting nicely with a lovely bit of felt recoil. That's what I want to feel!

 

Now I've read less than happy thoughts about the Prosport's cocking underlever with Phil's (mawders) experiences. Never was an issue before and not something a £500 rifle should suffer from.

 

Nick, if you are delighted with the performance of yours then, that's great to hear. It reassures me to read a great report from a happy shooter that perhaps Phil's experience was a rare thing with Air Arms' flagship rifle.

 

Weihrauch alas, are more and more embroiled in poor standards with a number of dissatisfied customers posting their opinions on the various forums.

 

I hope they take stock or Tony Wall's pension plan is going to look very healthy indeed!

Sry gor the question, but what is included in a stage 2 kit?

Dont think you can buy a stage 2 kit, It has to be done in house as it were, by the boys at SFS.

Could be wrong though, somebody will say if that is so.

As I understand it the stage 2 has to be done by Sandwell themselves. There's rather more to it than just swapping a few parts.

Stage two is a send away, just got off the phone with Tony ( he was half way through a pork pie) arranging to have my HW97kt sorted out 5-6 week turn around. But even with shipping costs, it's cheaper than I can get it in Sheffield. Can't say I'm looking forward to not having it for a while though, maybe they should start doing loaners....
