splitcane 5
For those who've not seen it, (as I hadn't until a few minutes ago) his explains. It deserves a storm. http://www.shootingtimes.co.uk/news/538267/Legal_aid_reforms_impact_fieldsports.html And here's something positive to do about it: a petition on the official Government site for such things against the proposals (couched in general terms, not specifically to do with firearms, although don't let that put you off!) http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/48628 Do sign it! MrWilberbeast1 0
Are prosecutions of genuine UK shooters common? Quote Link to post
events co-ordinator 353
Yes because the police know who we are and where we live it means they don't have to bother getting ilegal guns off the street thats why its vital to belong to a shooting org with legal fees insurance. Quote Link to post

Marksman 934
I'm insured through SACS too.... £10 mil liability and legal cover included, but that's for ANY country sport not just airgunning. Darryl Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
This is just another removal of financial policy by the Con/Lib lot from the government's avowed commitment to protect the people it represents in order to save cash. This time, it's on legal aid bills and country sports is the target. Or more likely because a lot of air rifle shooters who fall foul of the law are from poor households who cannot afford to pay for justice to protect them.. They are the ones most likely to be caught trespassing and poaching a pheasant or rabbit or two to feed their families. And that's not fair. Not when the policies of this tyrannical Party are forcing the poor into ever tighter corners. That's bullying a defenceless sector of society yet again. Where is justice in the country for less well-off folk? They are not all scum and thieves and workshy scroungers. Cameron and his rich pals would dearly love to live in the days when a man could be hanged or maimed for poaching the King's deer! That's what this measure looks like to me... Make sure your insurance policies cover you in the event of all or any possible legal actions taken against you. Edited May 14, 2013 by pianoman 3 Quote Link to post

splitcane 5
In case anyone misses my edit of the original post, here's the web address at which it is possible to do something positive to prevent these proposals - a petition against them on the official Government web site. It doesn't specifically mention firearms because a lot more categories of offence would be affected than just firearms, but don't let that put you off. This affects shooters - and perhaps especially air rifle shooters, given the issues around the 12 ft/lb law - at least as much as anyone else. http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/48628 Do sign it!
