Over here if you have permission who you gona get in trouble with the shades could no more give a f**k if your on permissive land

No hunting deer! Full stop! Rabbits hares grand but if anyone asks just say rabbits ! The gardas haven't a clue! Just be careful your not on coursing land the greyhound boys cud get a bit thick ! Now

a badger took euros off you, well thats a first lol

Just to add, most of the land in Leitrim and around carrick, is bad rough old land, rushy fields, hills, lased with barbed wire, mad gates ect ect, also, i would not trespass, stick to your permission, as their is the odd farmer their that will shoot your dogs without a care and if the guards are called (police), the guards will be on side of the land owner! Its a wild place here at times!

The land as said, is not the best, very small tight fields. Their use to be a good population of hares, but due to over hunting by certain persons, they have all but gone in a lot of them places.

Have fun, but becarefull and watch out for the greyhound coursing men, that have hares preserved in certain areas and deer are off limits big time, get caught taking them and they will throw away the key, no joke! Good luck.

i'm 8 miles from carrick, good few hares around, hardly any rabbits, loads of fallow, less pheasants than rabbits lol, if you stick to hares, rabbits and pheasants you will be within the law, stay away from the deer with dogs, most farmers round this end of the country are sound as long as you don't act the bollox, but like anywhere else you will get the odd bad tempered one lol.

no he wont-running hares with lurchers is illegal in ireland-but if a fella was out after rabbits and a hare just popped up out of the blue...

Thanks for all the comments finally got a few straight answers my nans lived in Mohill Co.Leitrim for 8 years now so im no stranger to the place but ive never been over with a dog or asked about coursing which is why i started this post. I was always over their for the fishing and the peace :) My permission is from the Wrynnes who are my nans next door neighbours all be it 3 miles down the road!!!

They have a farm for me in carrick and my nans friendly with 3 or 4 farmers in the area to who will all be happy to let me use their land. We ( me and my brother) may need a guide mind if anyone wants to come on the land with us we will be coming over in october time. The most ironic thing about it is our dog is called Paddy.....No joke i think a few may turn heads if we are calling the dogs names but its genuine not a piss take!!

If there was more work in Ireland i know where id choose to live :)

ATB Thanks again.

I know of Mohill, good land in parts round their and the last time i hunted back in the 90's, their was a good population of hares. Not sure what its like now as i have not been up their in a few years. As for rabbits, did not see many, just the odd one, but they could be more now. Good luck with your stay when you come over, im sure some one on here that is living not far from their, or around their will help you out.

Thanks Saluki246 much appreciated. Well speaking with the Wrynnes they say the farm in Carrick is littered with rabbits at the moment. So fingers crossed for the winter.

Yeah id be more than happy to take a Lad with us on our Permission. Its not like i'm doing it for pest control and money. More sport and food :D
