Whippet Or Whippetxbull

Recommended Posts

im wanting to get back into the dogs after a few years off and want a nice little dog to keep me company while out in the country, something i can slip on small rabbits and have a good attempt on bigger rabbits too. i personally like a dog to have a good head and some balls about him, i had a bull/grey (5/8 grey 3/8 bull dog over a pure gray) so there was just a little bull in her and she was a lovely animal had a nice head and ran most things for me quite well. im mainly looking to do rabbits though now on flat arable fields and rabbits along rough grassy edges to rushy fields. im told a whippet would be just the job but i like a dog with a nice strong head and a little more beef to them so will a bull/whipp do the job for me? plz help

# edited to say i will be doing ferreted rabbits with the dog as well will it be ok for the job?

imo you'd be better getting a bull x than a staff x,I had a staff x whippet was ok on bunnies on the lamp and the most agile dog I've ever seen but very easily injured,no wind and couldn't be worked r

Would go 3/4 whippet 1/4 bull so it's not to chunky bud

I've hunted with blackstaffs dogs the last few seasons and no bullshit if you can find 2 better rabbiting dogs than them ill be impressed,ferreting/lamping is there forte but I know they'll pull bigge

Depends which way they throw with half cross could be really bully and not alot of pace but could throw really racey just think 3/4 bred would give the pace for day time rabbits and and nice head on it

The bull he bred off is a bit special to so as your man says get a dog off good working stock or if you've got a bitch ask blackstaff for use of his dog?
