Today my boy and I became fully fledged members of the NRA UK. Because we both hold FACs we bypassed the normal 6 months probation and just had to have an assessment to get our Safe Shooters Certs.

Interesting stuff they do at Bisley. They do a HME (High Muzzle Energy) course for guns over a certain energy. I think the biggest you can use without getting certified for this is a .308 or 30-06. If you get certified they use .338s and 50s.Can't wait to try them babies out.

You'll no be using 338 or 50 at bisley mate the range doesn't hold a saftey cert for them

O.K. cheers. I'll have to ask them where they hold the training for this certification then. Still going to have a go.

I'm going there this weekend. I'll have to ask what he meant. They showed us a graph of muzzle energies that you were allowed to shoot at Bisley and he said if you want to shoot M.E higher than that, you can do special training for it. Didn't realise he meant it might be a different range. :hmm:

The nra consider anything over 3319ftlbs as a high Me when you consider the 50 has an approx ME of 13-15000 ftlbs its in a different league even a 30-06 can be pushed over their threshold to classify it as high ME

Still be a fun day though let us know how you get on

Got to the bottom of it now. The HME "course" is to instruct you on how to safely zero a HME rifle. As correctly stated above, .338 and .50 are specifically excluded from this. (NOW they tell me)

I think 300 win mags are allowable though. Powerful enough to be getting on with.

Went on a "McQueens" range this Saturday. Only at 200 yards, but there is a castle shape with various windows and battlements on it and every 5-15 seconds a target appears at a random window for 3 seconds. 10 shots, max 6 points per shot. I came 7th out of 18. well pleased for my first effort.

The McQueens style comps are great adds some real excitement to target shooting
