A hare jumped one day I had the two young bitches out about end of November I slipped lady the hare was about 80yrds out she got to him and ran him well for about 2 mins all in one field so I slipped other bitch to kill the hare .She only got in ladys way and f****d up the run the hare got away she was about 4 or 5 months older than lady very well bred :hmm: I think lady will be a good bitch next season she killed a few last season single so looking forward to see how she turns out  The other bitch had a hunting accident had to be put asleep

Legality has nothing to do with morals, or personal ethics. I would not run hares between second week in March, and middle of September, in actual fact i dont think I've ever run them before October

First off, this isn't a dig, it's a question. And obviously talking of pre-ban / Ireland.   I hear a lot of lads saying that when bringing on their coursing pups, they tried/ try to give them a few

That old chestnut "....because other lads will get there first if I don't..." doesn't equal 'respect for quarry'. To me, if you have morals then you have morals. If you don't have morals you pursue

So tell me this its not ok to give a pup a run in the summer months buts its ok to run doubled up at the start off the season????? Its ok to block gates and gaps. Its ok to slip a pup in on one that has been run???? Well this is the way l see it to many ppl sit on this making them selfs to be mr perfect. We have all blocked a gate. We have all run doubled up. We have all slipped in and we have all took a pup out for a evening run in the summer at one stage or another. I be giving pup few runs on few hot spots and come start season she be going single simple she not good enough come.end year l start over.

Chasing the Hare has led to breeding's, debates and discussions for generations, creating the ultimate coursing dog has reached an almost "holy grail" type situation. I can not understand why some one would want to go after hares when they are less than fit and/or pregnant, in my mind it lessens the "magic" of the whole Hare thing. Leave them be in summer, give them a chance to breed and only chase them when they are fit, that way you really know what your dog can do. Each to there own but when they are gone, they are gone! :( Hares, in my opinion should be treated in the same way that other top notch game is around the world, it should have a closed season to ensure numbers into the future and should be chased within a set of rules, not bushwaked or ambushed, it just demeans the chase. Its only my opinion, not a lecture but that's what forums are for.......opinions

I find, slipping in more than 1 dog and worse 2, makes them get in each others way! A good dog/bitch, seems to work the hare better on its own. As for summer hunting, certain members on this topic, have done it to bring on pups.

Each to their own, but as i get more into this crazy game of coursing, i find slipping just the one dog, the best, you know what you have then.

but you have slipped in or run doubled if you have theres no differnce. Imo each tell there own but the word respect and sport make me laugh at times.

They certainly seem to be strangers to each other, judging by some of the comments.

Id reckon quality would come in over quatity in this matter am not suprised that many go out in summer for easy kills and to get confidence in pups etc , what never fails to suprise me is thge 'urgent need' to tell everyone, they know its against the grain, pest control excuse don't cut it not when it comes to hare coursing, as its a sport/test one quarry againsrt another, some choose to play by a set of established loose rules fair play , proper slip, etc cutting corners usually ends in tears when it coimes to sport, theresusually only one or two viable ways to get the desired results and its usually patience and hard graft, any corners cut will likely coem back to haunt you later in season.

Surely the grounds too hard especially for young pups? stones ect do not move, constant pounding on hard compact surface with no give, not place for young soft devloping bones, tender growth plates, then theres the bits you cannot see like in the mind, are they really ready for hare after hare, if goin gets rough in comes big dog to rescue etc, won't happen if they in a comp heat runnign alone in december no rescue misson, once the ground deepens dogs need supple tendons etc to deal with it ,

surely better to wait until grounds had plenty of rain on it and pups properly grown and matured mentally, fair does ya run less but imho the pup will learn more runnign some good uns as oppossed to a load of rollovers, maybe not as tempted to throw in towel and dig a little deeper when needed. Likesay I know sod all really just observation and whats worked for me personaly, there just seems to be a lot of wastage every year I know somes downto poor breeding but some must be down to poor entering as well

Lest sum1 talkin sense. I find aswell it can bring a plodder on waitin for work to be done for um I seem it before I mukas lamp dogs that been doubled ,on own useless and waitin expectin it to be turned. To many bad habit can be put in doubled. Plus added injury risk is that worth it ??????
