cheeser 306
First off, this isn't a dig, it's a question. And obviously talking of pre-ban / Ireland. I hear a lot of lads saying that when bringing on their coursing pups, they tried/ try to give them a few runs over summer on easy hares etc. Every coursing man, seems to have young dogs to bring on every year for the next season. So is this common practice? Does it not go against what they preach, in terms of giving the hare fair respect? And also, can it not potentially f**k up the dog running on hard ground in the heat after sally? thats common pratice over here 1 Quote Link to post

running addiction 207
Running young daft game is all good fun untill you dog thinks they all like that an start pulling up on good game I think it would have the opposite effect more more kills into them the more confidence they will have 5 Quote Link to post
Hot Meat 3,109
Start of season hares are hardly tests. Especially for a dog bred to the job an conditioned properly so why use summer hares? Why not wait till the sept? I think its lazyness on the owners part. Now accidents happen ofcourse but to go out walking fields in summer in the name of confidence is bull. Get the dog fit an enter it properly 3 Quote Link to post

paulus 26
It might just be me but in the summer the crops are 3ft tall the grass is over 2ft until silaged and there's beasts out to pasture everywhere else, unless there dead on the lanes then i rarely see a hare until the autum and any the dogs do kick up vanish into the crops  Quote Link to post
