auldboy 2
just a little question to see what different people consider to be gameness one lad thinks a Russell digging at a hedge row for half the day is gameness but his mate thinks that is the russells hunting instinct my out look on gameness is a terrier that will go below and gets stuck into his quarry what do you lads consider to be gameness Quote Link to post
whippet 99 2,613
sometimes when out years ago trying an earth ,.........terrier maybe interested in a old hole what has been filled in so the terrier will start digging ,......even after its smelt other holes ...........and if the dog says yeah you dig it open for him to enter.......and bingo the dog is always right........ your mates judgement of gameness dont really make sense but if a dog is digging to get in an earth then you have to help the wee fella ..............if its rabbits its trying to dig too ,....well just shoot it.........lol 1 Quote Link to post

dee mac 579
gameness for me is a dog that uses what ever means it takes to get the job done i prefare to use the word determination hardness is not to be confused with gameness a 10 inch russell that works its quarry and stays till dug without taking much stick is as game as the dog that goes in and likes to get stuck in the one thing both need to do tho is stay till dug ive seen smashem type dogs that got stuck in dug over many times then low and behold they decide its not for them and come away or refuse to enter no gameness there they were just bullies that when getting good as they give bottled it some lads think a game dog is a mute dog that wont give an inch as long as he satys till dug hes game same as the we 10 inch russell that stays till dug they just have diff working styles 4 Quote Link to post

timc20xe 73
A game dog is one that will stay there untill the end no matter how long it takes and no matter what the outcome is 1 Quote Link to post
jeemes 4,484
True gameness can only be shown by a dog on the loosing end, when it refuses to give way. That is the meaning of gameness. There is no other meaning ,and the only true test is death. Since it would now be illegal to test a dog that far no one can claim it on this forum. 4 Quote Link to post

Think the thread is about earth dogs nothing else, but many the terrier has given its life under the sod when it could have came away, would you not call them game. 4 Quote Link to post

stripes 401
To face a foe on its own terms in its habitat in complete darkness with a animal that can be twice the terriers size, to stay to the bitter end deserves the title Gameness . 3 Quote Link to post
