dymented 2,220
might have been poisoned ? 1 Quote Link to post
timmy k 591
Had a similar one once but with my lurcher, she wedge herself down the hole and pulled out a vixen, perfect condition no marks and no where near any livestock, so I don't think it was poisoned ( at least not intentionally ). Maybe it had a heart attack from fast food ha ha, maybe like people it just died, it happens. Quote Link to post
the_stig 6,614
might have been poisoned ? Poison? my thoughts aswell... Quote Link to post
gouldy257 79
cant see if it was just nature,, how the cub would have died and am sure even with no food for 2days it would have still being living quite faintly so am also baffled and the same conclusion as others and its poison Quote Link to post
BIGLURKS 874
See the cub was not even in that bad of condition Quote Link to post
whippet 99 2,613
it was probably poison .......there so cunning this time of the year and very eager to feed there siblings and kill / scavenge what they can at someones exspense....... so it makes people desperate as they cant afford to loose poultry or livestock and it makes them do exstream things such as poison..... i went seen a farmer the other day ,.......kept loosing chickens and they knew it wasnt fox etc.........they thought mink,...stoat etc.. (because of the entry to get in there was no obvious signs of anything bigger) and they could never catch it in the act to shoot it .........well the culprit was found in there kitchen .......it was an albino ferret ..........(possibly one of mine, but obviously stated it wasnt lol)........it was tame as come be .......having looked at it ,...it is pregnant and it will be interesting to see what has been put over it ,.........my guesss is a wild polecat....time will tell anyway she said you were lucky we were going to poison what ever it was ,............as they could never catch it in the act ......so it just goes to show people take desperate measures when it comes down to there livelyhood/pocket...... 1 Quote Link to post
BIGLURKS 874
The only thing in my mind that says its not poison is the location nearest home is about 3 miles away and can't think of any one that would put poison Down for any reason the lad that has the land is a good friend and has never put poision down always gave us a ring if he had anything going missing or problems with rats Quote Link to post
Carraghs Gem 1,675
Cut the vixens carcass open and examine the internal organs instead of guesswork, you dont need to be a vet to do a very basic autopsy Quote Link to post
BIG G wheton machine 1,594
having cubs could have weakened the heart so possibly a heart attack, but chances are its poison as the dog fox also helps feeding the vixen it will travel up to 5 miles maybe more in search of food, but wouldn't die as it didn't eat the food as it could have been brought back for the vixen n cubs 1 Quote Link to post
the_stig 6,614
i`ve known some landowners leave baited food out.. Quote Link to post
The one 8,503
Aye its no been that bad a spring so poison does sound a real threat ,and a vixen with cubs would cover a good distance to get food Quote Link to post
stripes 401
If its poison and it sounds like it is, there will be blisters in the foxes mouth from burning of the poison,, know this from going to the vets with a mates dog that was poisoned. Quote Link to post
The one 8,503
There was a small holder here baited some rats and just threw them on his midden killed a few magpies and a fox before he clicked what was happening and then buried the rest . might be a genuine mistake Quote Link to post
