redpat1 225
Haha, dont say that! If/when im keeping ferrets outside again i think id go for a coop. Might have to make a few adjustments to it but im sure it will do the job! Came across this thread on another forum, Theyve made a base but it will be ok on hard ground. Doesnt need filled as much as they have though haha. http://www.ferretsforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?tid=23225 Thanks, another great link. They have definitely over done it a bit with the accessories though . I am going to fit the floor with marine ply to make life a little easier. But you are definitely responsible for my purchase. lol. Quote Link to post
B.P.R 2,798
them pictures of that ferret court were definitley taken before the ferrets got into it ....i wonder what state its in now i bought a chicken coup but didnt fancy it over my triple hutch.... just seemed a bit flimsy and had some 'hard to reach' areas that would make cleaning a nightmare. didnt like the mesh all round.....if the ferrets shiit up the side of it then it would look a right mess. i would put a couple of bits of perspex....6"or so high in the bottom corners to prevent this. regards to warmth in winter. mine (along with others) have endured some super harsh winters and aslong as they are fed and watered properly and have adequate bedding....they will be fine. dont forget.... ferrets cant sweat so dont like warm conditions. i always supply blankets and they keep them in in the winter and kick them out in the summer. lately in the warm weather they have been sleeping in the hammock or on the floor of the hutch Quote Link to post
redpat1 225
Hi BPR, yeah I am going to put a floor on made from 6mm marine ply and I think I will probably do the same to the side which ends up facing my fence as there wont be anything for them to see anyway. I have two Jills now courtesy of Fieldsportsman from the site, they have had a couple of seasons behind them already and know their job. I had heard of the Jills he owns when a couple of lads from the Kent FMWTC went out with him and had nothing but good things to say about the way they performed, so I am very grateful to Jack (Fieldsportsman) for thinking of me, I will take good care of them pal. I still want to find some quality kits in Kent though as I want to run them on alongside the Jills at the backend of the season to ready them up for the following year. But I have also had a serious rethink and I am seriously considering taking a litter now instead though as I wasn't expecting a couple of quality Jills to fall in to my lap and I know the previous owner has been inundated with calls from people asking if he was breeding this year. So would appreciate anyone with a decent Hob or Hobble in the Kent area getting in touch. Any thoughts gents? I must admit I was nervous about getting ferrets again so didn't fancy taking on a litter but within 5 minutes it all came flooding back and now I am wondering why I ever gave it up. Oh, the kids are doing cartwheels they are so excited. I had to disappoint them and explain why we cant go rabbiting for a few more months yet! Quote Link to post
