Finally Allowed A Ferret Set Up

Cheers Greyrake, really helpful. I think that the chicken coup and cover looks the business. I guess I would have to buy a standard hutch to fit in my shed during the colder months though.

There's was a guy who was advertising in the Dover/ Deal area with kits ready for May, it was on preloved, Al Brown. Said the dad was a small working silver, he had 7 but don't know if he's any left?

We had a family vote as to whether a couple of stinkers would become part of the menagerie, don't know why as I'm the only one who cleans them out!! I have a double tier hutch with a pipe connecting to an upright court made out of a wardrobe carcass with two levels and storage at the bottom, nothing fancy but the stinkers love it.

Don't think you would need to bother to be honest, if you got something like that coop, they would be fine having the indoor area available, assuming they had lots of bedding. They are hardy creatures. Looking at that particular coop, id investigate that window on the door, might want to cover that for the winter. If the indoor space is quite big you could always put in nest boxes and other types of small enclosed beds for them, to make sure they can get warm when they need to. Plus with you getting two, they will be happy curled up together.

 

Also keep in mind it would need to be on a hard surface or have a base made. They are good diggers.

I guess the perfect solution for me would be if someone is giving up the sport but has a complete set up for sale perhaps with a couple of young, well handled ferrets included. Not that I want the earth or anything.

Just keep doing what your doing. Posting on forums etc. It is kit season so I'm sure you will come across some. Got my current two following an ad on Gumtree, was a fair drive to get them but was worth it, good working line as stated in the ad.

Mine have always been outside too, it helps if you have a couple to keep each other warm when it's cold. I used to chuck a bit of extra bedding in with them when it dipped below 0 but they always seemed to keep booting it out again so I stopped bothering in the end!

Reguards the coop brill housing i have mine in one, all i did was tung and groove the back and 2 sides and left the front open spot on.

 

Not sure yet but i may have some kits you can have for free, unproven vasctomised hob used for this season and one of my girls is getting a bit large lol.

sure will mate.. just watch going for a big number with limited space as when they start to break you need to be fit to control there breeding... get 2 jills if you can then wait to further down the line and look for a hob if you want to breed..

I am going to order a coup style court with an all season cover so there should be plenty of room for a few kits. Just need to find the stock and I will be ok, either that or I will have to fill it with chickens. lol.

I think I might also try and find someone local with a Hobble I can borrow next spring as I don't want any litters for a few seasons, especially as I want to make sure I find the right traits I am looking for in my stock. I just want to get myself familiar with it all again first before I start breeding my own.

Well I have ordered my court as recommended by GreyRake (its on you pal, lol) and will be in a day or two, so everything is falling in to place. Still looking for kits though so please let me know of any as I will be all systems go by the weekend and the kids (and me) are really excited.

Any tips for getting it all set up right or anything I should be doing to make the whole thing fairly simple then please let me know.

Haha, dont say that! If/when im keeping ferrets outside again i think id go for a coop. Might have to make a few adjustments to it but im sure it will do the job!

 

Came across this thread on another forum, Theyve made a base but it will be ok on hard ground. Doesnt need filled as much as they have though haha.
