C Hall 552
Kranky would give your dog a 200 yard slip on quarry that is up and running full throttle and expect it to get to terms? I'd judge each slip on the particular situation. It's unusual for stuff to be up and running full throttle when I'm 200 yards away because I'm creeping about and not hanging out the window of my Scooby. My dog can get on to terms with stuff that are given more than fair law. He's quick. Any dog worth its salt should be able to make up ground regardless of it being let out of a vehicle or slipped on foot I just dont get your wisdom of a 200 yard slip and saying your not hanging out of a scooby or 4x4 Quote Link to post

Have you never had your quarry feeding out in the middle of the field as you approach the gate or push your way to the edge of the cover you been stalking through? Would you attempt to belly crawl into position or forget that slip? I don't need to do either, my dog does it all for me. Quote Link to post
C Hall 552
Kranky I dont get why you think your dog is so superior to a dog that is worked primarily out of a vehicle because you can slip it from 200 yards away Do you think every dog that is worked from a vehicle cannot be given long or harder slips? IMO Any dog worth keeping can be given a long slip regardless of it being mainly walked and slipped or slipped from a vehicle. Edited May 3, 2013 by C Hall Quote Link to post

I never said that, read back, my comments were made in response to other comments. You need to read the entire thread otherwise you'll take things out of context. The bull x's that I get out with are all quality animals and do their job well. But these are running dogs with some pace about them. My criticism of the blokes that chuck their dogs out of motors was aimed at those who's dogs haven't got the wind or those who prefer the big heavyset draw dogs. These dogs will only catch when the car has done the majority of the work for them. The fact that my dog is superior to all other dogs is due to a lot of factors and not just long slips. Neoleaver 55
I had an English bull cross late 80's was a cracking dog. Caught daytime hares, lamped rabbits and hares back then. It had a big deep chest, body of a greyhound but big square face. Bags of stamina and held its own speed wise. Only one I had which tells its own story. Think it was the cryton head that put me off getting another but it Definately put food on the table. My brother had a bitch years ago out of a field trail lab by a big ugly white ebt (accidental), was his pet/guard. She was incredible, like the muscles and head of the bull were wrapped round the skeleton of the lab, most clever, agile (her party piece was doing near backward somersaults!) biddable good natured bitch Ive ever known, she lived till age 17. She was put to a track grey and the two dog pups I saw were outstanding all round lurchers with the look of a 3/4 bred bull, only down side to em was the feet....not terrible, but I know both had downtime from cut/damaged feet....they were real power runners and their toes took a beating. Be nice to see a few more ebt crosses about, reckon the first cross would probly be lighter built than usual. Quote Link to post

Dan Edwards 1,134
I have a lot of long slips or what I call dumps and I dont care what dog you put in the back of the truck if that critter is haulin ass already and you dump at 200 yards you most likely aint catchin the sumbitch. If he stand there lookin at ya then yes of course he's f****d but if he is movin on out you just wasted your time but at least you get to see one helluva run. Quote Link to post

Catching's nice but if your quarry does its best to get away and succeeds then it deserves to live and run another day. Quote Link to post
Boss-Hog 269
over the yrs ive seen lots of half x bulls catching regular numbers inc 3 and 5 s a night single handed ,and the only critisism is by other lurcher owners about their to heavy, and the best is their dogs dont even catch anywhere near the game put in front of em .but non believers their the ones [BANNED TEXT] blinkers on lmao ,and when theirve gone out in company its their dogs that wnt fight not the bull x [BANNED TEXT] bad reps Quote Link to post

He'd sniff other dogs etc but they couldn't as much as look at him or it was mayhem lol. He was an oldish dog when I got him, wish I had him from a pup. His feet were poor too but what a character and killing machine Quote Link to post
